    Attribute gage r&r

Hi! I have no experience into gage r&r for attribute gage validation (new engineer in training). So we have gages that are measuring a dimension with 3 attributes : to small, good and to big. I'm tasked to qualify those gages with a gage r&r process from AIAG MSA. According to our quality...

Cylindrical coordinate system shear stresses for SolidWorks Simulation?

I have a simple axisymetric part with a torque load. SolidWorks Simulation gives the choice to get the shear stresses in the usual x, y and z coordinates system. I didn't find a way to get the angular shear stress? Is there a way to get shears in the cylindrical coordinate system?

Bad drawing conversion (hole pattern asymetric position)

I've put zero because I need to change it accordingly...

Bad drawing conversion (hole pattern asymetric position)

Currently working on a part mod. I want to convert the current drawing to proper GD&T standards. So, a 6 holes pattern of 6mm H7 is positioned on a pitch circle of 25.78 which has asymetrical tolerance. So, I want to convert this asymetrical tolerance of (+0.012, -0.006) mm to a position...

    Equations in forum threads (MathML)?

Unless I'm unaware of it, I don't see any way to include equations within the threads. I resort to put images with equations in them. As an engineering forum, it is unfortunate. Is there a way to push "MathML" in the interface? Is there a forum for "user suggestions" so people can post suggestions?

Signed von Mises stress when the sign is "zero"

I have a stress state that gives a sign of zero for the signed von Mises stress. According to most of the literature, the sign is coming from the first invariant I1 of the stress tensor (Hydrostatic stress): For the general stress state the invariants are : For the principal stresses the...

Get fatigue the notch factor for non standard geometry?

We have an aluminium die casting housing that receives some machining. From time to time, the machining is notching a wall. A hole is produced so 2 empty volumes are communicating. Since all of this is sealed with 2 shaft seals and a cover, we may accept that hole as is. However, we aim to make...

Empirical formulas for compressive yield strength?

I have material sheets in a sandwich pressed by screw. So, buckling isn't a problem, the width is way bigger than the height. The sandwich varies in composition (steel, plastics, aluminium ...). For our application, it is important to know this compressive elastic limit.

Empirical formulas for compressive yield strength?

I work with a diversity of materials. The properties of these materials aren't always well known in websites like MatWEB, Campus plastics... Compressive Yield Strength is seldom given for most materials, even common ones. Despite that, I need that property in my calculations. Is there some...

Helical gear tooth force according to axis torque

I can't talk about the reasons... Thank you for the suggestion for "Buckingham". I'll dive into it.

Helical gear tooth force according to axis torque

I'm not a gear specialist. Just entering the field. I'm tasked to design an helical gear driven by a motor. This very skewed helical gear is driving an ordinary spur gear in a way that resemble to a worm gear. I don't find on internet the relation between rotation axis torque and tooth forces...

Impose mesh coordinates multiple different simulations (SolidWorks Simulation)

Sure, I can copy everything. However, there is no control on the meshing algorithm. I mean by that: - If I change a condition, the mesher may change the mesh geometry accordingly. - There is no garantee that the nodes will have the same node numbers even is the mesh is the same So my point is...

Pressure angle for helical gears, with tangential, axial and radial forces.

I currenly need to compute tangential, radial and axial forces on a set of gears (metric). The big driven gear is an involute straight teeth gear (spur gear). The driving gear is a small helical gear. The gear ratio is about 20:1. The 2 axis of the gears are not 0 or 90 degrees. It is an odd...

Impose mesh coordinates multiple different simulations (SolidWorks Simulation)

Hi, I have two simulations with a common part. The 2 simulations have different loading and fixture conditions. I would like to compare FEA results for that part only since the other parts differs. Thus, I need the same mesh for that part only for all simulation cases. Is there a way to impose...
