Looking for resources I can use to teach myself electrical wiring for process application engineering

You're probably right about me not knowing what I don't know, and I should have clarified more. I am not fully left to my own devices, as my supervisor is always there to answer any questions I have and look over my work. However, I want to be able to do some learning on my own time, so I was...

Looking for resources I can use to teach myself electrical wiring for process application engineering

I am a chemical engineer fresh out of college and have landed myself a job as a project engineer. Part of my job is spec-ing and ordering electrical parts like actuators, VFDs, proximity switches (pressure and level switches too), etc. I lack a lot of the basic knowledge when it comes to...

Searching for a "cheat sheet" that list catalyst and their known poisons

Ideally, I am searching for a table that list common catalyst (specifically for oxidizers) and their known poisons.

Do Orifice Plate Flow Meters account for varying densities?

There is a forced draft process blower between the tank and the oxidizer. The blower is what is controlling the flow, not the nitrogen.

    Help with unit conversion

Yeah, I knew my problem was with my gc, but correcting it would cause my C variable to be wrong. I ended up converting imperial units to metric units, solving using the method in the article, then converting my final answer to imperial units. There is still issue with this method, but my answer...

    Help with unit conversion

To “work around” this problem, I solved for the area by converting from imperial to metric, using the article’s constants and formulas, and then converting back to imperial units. I compared the answer my sheet gives me with other sources I have, and the results were close. At most, it’s off by...

    Help with unit conversion

The article gives it in units of Kg-m/N-s^2 which is essentially unitless. Like reynolds number.

    Help with unit conversion

I am trying to make a pressure relief valve calculation in Excel for determining the minimum required area of discharge to get a desired mass flow rate. I am using the ACHIE relief valve sizing article and the example in it to validate my calculations. However, when I convert the metric units to...

Do Orifice Plate Flow Meters account for varying densities?

I understand, thank you! You found me again LittleInch.

Do Orifice Plate Flow Meters account for varying densities?

My vendor told me they had nothing in their catalog that would work. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. However, I do not understand the maximum full-scale value for liquid? Where does this number come from? Also, the gas density at operating conditions will change, so why does the...

Do Orifice Plate Flow Meters account for varying densities?

I like method 2. However, density is intrinsically related to pressure, as described by the equation ( P = \rho g h ). Therefore, if the density of the gas changes, the pressure should also change. I am confused as to why this logic does not hold up.

Do Orifice Plate Flow Meters account for varying densities?

Thank you for your detailed response. Unfortunately, Coriolis meters are not good for gases. Additonally, in order to obtain an adequate destruction efficiency of organics in the oxidizer, there must be a minimum residence time of 1 second. This is why the flow rate needs to be measured and...

Looking for Flow Coefficients for Poppet Valves utilized in Regenerative Thermal Oxidizers (RTOs)

Unfortunately, that is not possible. I apologize but I cannot give much more details.

Looking for Flow Coefficients for Poppet Valves utilized in Regenerative Thermal Oxidizers (RTOs)

I apologize for the late response. I do not know what you mean by antibes. However, I believe I have discovered an answer to my question. Thank you for replying to my post.

Do Orifice Plate Flow Meters account for varying densities?

I am currently working on a process that uses inert nitrogen (N₂) to purge organics from a tank. The organics are then fed through a process line into an oxidizer. Initially, the process line contains primarily organics, but as the tank empties, the process line becomes more nitrogen-rich. This...

Looking for Flow Coefficients for Poppet Valves utilized in Regenerative Thermal Oxidizers (RTOs)

I had a coworker once tell me there is a great textbook that has a list of flow coefficients for poppet valves, but he cannot remember the name or author of the textbook. If anyone knows of a textbook, or other source, where I can find these values, please let me know. Below is an example of...

What does it mean when two compounds from the GC-FID analysis share a single area %?

Here is a fictitious example to clarify my question. Regarding the % composition of the mixture, what does it mean that propane and butane share the same area %? My guess is that a certain percentage of propane and a certain percentage of butane make up the 15%. But, if that is the case, how...

Where can I find Heating Values for various VOCs?

Got a list of VOCs but have no solid method of determining the heating values (BTU/lb) or (BTU/scf). Ethylene carbonate (EC) Dimethyl carbonate (DMC) Ethyl methyl carbonate (EMC) Diethyl carbonate (DEC) Propylene carbonate (PC) Propyl propionate Ethylene glycol (EG) N-methyl pyrrolidone Does...
