    Three-sided wood diaphragm

Hey Guys, Is there anywhere you guys know of a good example for this? I've never done these and I'd like to make sure I'm on the right track so I'd appreciate any good reading or examples. Thank you!

When to use a column pedestal

Where do you guys typically draw the line on using a pedestal or not? Is it based off of footing size? Load? Frost depth? Do you use it for nearly any exterior condition? thank you!

    Ladder Framing for Roof Outriggers

@rwpe thanks for the response and idea. just confirming you were using that to support the rim beams correct?

    Ladder Framing for Roof Outriggers

@lexpatrie The issue I'm running into there is the lack of space at the ceiling. I guess I could theoretically run them on top of the beams if I can get say 2x4's to work. Thanks for showing the detail it helps to visualize.

    Ladder Framing for Roof Outriggers

@ChorasDen essentially, where you see red are beams. there is no wall/column space except where you see the Lime Green. My primary issue is I don't see how I can avoid having framing with 1 support only which doesn't work for wood in my experience.

    Ladder Framing for Roof Outriggers

@phamENG I think you got it which is that there are openings to the ceiling height under these red lines on the exterior walls. They're trying to say they don't want any other columns but it sounds like they are going to have to add one or we just use steel which seems better in this case. Just...

    Ladder Framing for Roof Outriggers

@phamENG If the rafters are supporting the rim beams they're just cantilevered though right? I'm not familiar with how to make that work with wood rafters

    Ladder Framing for Roof Outriggers

@phamENG the problem is I'd need 2 support points for the rim beams. I don't see how I can do that unless there's a way to do a connection where I circled.

    Ladder Framing for Roof Outriggers

@dik @RontheRedneck the problem I'm seeing is that my beams are essentially cantilevers going to the corner on each side. I need them to be supported at 2 points. and as of now they're only supported at 1. I've attached another image where I've circled the area I'm wondering about. What does...

    Ladder Framing for Roof Outriggers

Hey Guys, I'm trying to frame some outriggers in a wood residential building. See below for what I've initially drawn trying to use a ladder framing approach. the light blue are typ. TJI's. The red are beams and the green are where I can locate posts. There are openings below these beams so...

    Gable end truss drag loads

@XR250 not sure what you're doing here you could literally say that to any question posted on this site. To answer your question, no this is regarding drawings I've looked at not personally done...

    Gable end truss drag loads

Hey Guys, If you have a gable end truss on a single story house with a window or garage opening below, would you call for a drag truss on the plans? I don't really see a reason to do so but I've seen drawings with this done. I'd love to hear some thoughts on why this is done and if it's...

Uplift holdown load on PT slab interior

@KootK it's 10.5" and at an interior condition. I'm thinking it basically grabs 12" or so in every direction(about a 45 degree angle). which would be 4 sq. ft which is 600 lbs ultimate. The 700 lbs is an allowable load to be clear. Let me know if you think any of my assumptions are overly...

Uplift holdown load on PT slab interior

Hey Guys, If I have an uplift load on a PT slab on grade that exceeds the weight of the immediate area of the slab, how would you recommend dealing with this? A footing below the pt slab? I have a 700 lb allowable load and don't think I can justify the slab weight resisting it.

Net negative wind pressure on MWFRS sloped roof?

Hey Guys, When following chapter 28 for MWFRS I'm noticing I get net negative wind pressure on at least some sloped roofs (meaning more wind opposite direction than towards the building). Does that seem correct? Or is there something I'm not looking at correctly? As it is I'd only consider the...

Is there such a requirement as minimum length for groove welds?

Not 100% certain on a minimum. I know Simpson calls for 1" flare-bevel welds on some of their hangar welds so I guess it's that or less if that helps.

Steel column to top of ICF wall detail

Hey Guys, I'm trying to locate a steel column on top of an ICF wall. I've attached a detail I drew up. Do you guys see any issues with this? Is this easily doable for the contractor or is there a way to make it easily doable? One concern I have is a 5" embed plate going into a 6" wide concrete...

    Minimum surface for welds

Hey guys, how much area do you need for surface of welds. For example if I have a baseplate that has 1/2" extending past each side of the column can you still weld a 3/16" fillet weld on that? Thank you! also, does anyone know how to delete a thread with the new interface?
