Number of thermocouples during PWHT according to ASME section I and B31.1

@hacksaw The topic concerns thermocouples during heat treatment, not thermocouples used to measure the medium in the pipeline.

Number of thermocouples during PWHT according to ASME section I and B31.1

@goutam_freelance Yes, I found these records in D10.10. They are practically the same as in the case of ASME section I. However, the customer specification imposes a completely different way of placing and number of thermocouples. Hence my question, are the guidelines from ASME (section I and...

Welding of new PQR by reducing the thickness of base metal by machining

Hi, I understand that you are qualifying according to ASME s.IX? Is impact strength required? If not, the qualification range will be 5-31.76mm. If impact strength is required, then you actually need a thinner coupon. I did exactly the same on a PED project and neither the notified body nor...

    Butt weld fittings

It appears to be manufactured incorrectly on the 6" side. The wall thickness on that side should be 0.432.

Number of thermocouples during PWHT according to ASME section I and B31.1

@r6155 Thank you for your reply. All standards are clear and simple when you have experience working with them. If you have such, please confirm whether I have interpreted them correctly. 1. In s.I(2021) in Appendix VIII, the exact location and number of thermocouples are given in the drawings...

Number of thermocouples during PWHT according to ASME section I and B31.1

@hacksaw By "heating element" they mean each heating mat. That is why performing PWHT with these guidelines in the case of large diameter pipes requires the use of a large number of mats. @r6155 Sorry, I wasn't sure which section to ask this question in.

Number of thermocouples during PWHT according to ASME section I and B31.1

Hello engineers, I am starting work on boiler pipelines according to ASME section I and B31.1. We will weld pipes with P no. 4, 5A and 15E with quite large diameters (up to 813 mm) and thicknesses (up to 57 mm). In his specification, the client specified the number of monitoring thermocouples...
