SOLIDWORKS: Cloud 3D CAD browser-based vs locally 3D CAD installed

I think it depends on company size, if you can always rely on the internet connection and how much variation you have with use. So a large company who has lots of people working the majority of their time on CAD I think you cant beat having a workstation under each persons desk. But for a...

BPVC Div 1 Bolt Load Mandatory Appendix 2.

I am trying to design a flange using Div 1, Mandatory Appendix 2 Bolted Flanges. But because of the gaskets and bolts the flange is getting very thick, which I am trying to avoid Most of that is driven by using the bolt load, I know using Torque to set Bolt load is quite inaccurate especially...

    Fired Boiler EN13445

Hello All, Is there an equivalent European standard to EN13445 for fired boilers? I can't seem to find one. Any help apprecaited.

BPVC Div 1 Thread Allowable (UG-43)

M10, but I also have other items with different threads so I wanted to understand the rules.

BPVC Div 1 Thread Allowable (UG-43)

IdanPV, thank you, I didn't realise this list of interpretations existed. I will check on that for future questions. Anyone know why don't these interpretations get rolled into updates on the Code? I appreciate every one cant be added, but in my mind this one is actually changing the code not an...

BPVC Div 1 Thread Allowable (UG-43)

Hi Geoff, thanks for your answer. When you say partial depth what do you mean? To take it to extreme, if I only use a small number of threads on the sensor the pressure could be enough to damage these and blow the sensor out. So I am surprised if this isn't covered in Div 1 somewhere, but UG43...

BPVC Div 1 Thread Allowable (UG-43)

There are a couple of different things. The smallest in diameter is an M10 thread at the moment. There are a couple of different threads though, and thing might change in future, so knowing where is states the rules so I can understand them would be great. Thanks

BPVC Div 1 Thread Allowable (UG-43)

Hello All, To clarify I am looking for holes that go into the pressurised area of the vessel, for example to add a pressure sensor. B1.20.1 is listed in UG-43, So I know i can use threads here, but they don't include metric threads, which some of my bought in components have. Where does it...

BPVC Div 1 Thread Allowable (UG-43)

Hello All, From reading BPVC 2023 Div 1. The only reference I can find for threaded connections is UG-43. The way I understand this we can only make a connection to the pressure vessel if the thread is listed ASME B1.20.1. Is this correct? Any help appreciated. Thanks Gavin

Stainless Steel for ASME BPVC VIII

Hello All, I am working on a design using Stainless Steel tube and I need to fix the diameters for a production intent design. Ideally using a standard size and avoiding any turning of the OD or ID. The product needs to go through ASME certification BPVC VIII, so I need to know the ASME...

    Suitable gasket for pressure vessels

Are those values Minimum stress? So Y in the Asme standards? So Kamprofile seals require between 10-40 Ksi (69- 236MPa) Is the range due to different Kamprofile designs/thickness or is it that to seat properly it needs a Minimum of 10? Thanks

ASME BPVC.VIII.1-2023 Man App 2. Flange Connections Calculations

Hello Both, Thank you for the replies, 1. Yes, by the average term I meant adding (Am + Ab)/2. I guess I cant understand why the Bolt load, W, would be related to the minimum area required of the bolts. I would have thought we should work the out the minimum area, check the proposed design...

ASME BPVC.VIII.1-2023 Man App 2. Flange Connections Calculations

Hello All, I am seeking advice on understanding this, I have scanned through the forums and found some similar lines of enquiry, but I still can't understand it this appendix fully. This is based on the 2023 release. I am pretty new to ASME and very new to pressure vessels. 1. Equation 5. (Pg...
