    Agricultural Drainage Standards

I'm interested in design standards for drainage ditches in the U.S. and Canada. What is the practice in your area?

    Agricultural Drainage Standards

Thanks Unfortunately much of what is described in the "drainage design standard" is fiction. It's the kind of thing we're aiming for but haven't found how to translate those objectives to drain design flows. The key hangup is what event do you design for, balancing costs and benefits.

    Agricultural Drainage Standards

I am working on a project to try and come up with a rational system of design standards for agricultural drains in Manitoba. These are the main system of drains or waterways that have drainage areas from about 20 square miles to 100's of square miles i.e. not field drains. I was wondering what...

    room temperature

I appreciate your information. Just to correct my earlier commen. The pumps are Denison vane type pumps. They run at 800 psi.

    room temperature

The entire system is in a vertical concrete shaft about 60' high and sheltered from the elements. There are 3 gates and each one has a seperate pump. I think it is a piston type pump but we're not really sure. We'll find out. The system is off most of the time. We just turn it on when a gate...

    room temperature

Thanks I was hoping a better oil would allow us to lower the temperature but wasn't sure if there might be some other problem that wouldn't occur to this civil engineer. It costs us about $1600 a month to heat the control building so pehaps we can save a few dollars.

    room temperature

We have a hydraulic system to raise and lower 6' gates in a dam. The manual for the dam states that the control building temperature should not be allowed to drop below 50 degrees farenheit to keep the hydraulic systems warm. The dam was built in 1967. Now I'm wondering why the temperature has...

    understanding pumps

I occassionally design small water supply systems (less than 50 gpm). I would like to understand better the pros and cons of various types of pumps and generally the design process in pump selection. Can anyone suggest a good basic practical book?

    SIZING A PRESSURE TANK

Probably best to talk to the pump supplier but for small systems (4 to 6 hp) I've sized the pressure tank for 2 minute running time.

    Pump controls

It is the name of a company that makes controllers. Until I started this project they were the only ones I had heard of. The ones we have in our systems have worked well for many years but when we have problems none of our local electricians know what to make of them. http://www.healyruff.com

    Pump controls

Thanks I think that is what needed

    Pump controls

The tank has floats and they run through the control panel. I am coming around to the realization that I can control the pumps directly with the floats as we do with septic tanks. Although the existing system runs through the Heally-Ruff it isn't really necessary. The tank is plastic and it has...

    Pump controls

The tank is 4 feet high. The top of the tank is about 6 feet higher than the pumphouse floor.

    Pump controls

I've been asked to design a small pumphouse to replace a 45 year old system for a campground and bunkhouse. The existing system works well so I will basically copy it. Except for the pump control (old Heally Ruff). It works well but can't be serviced locally. The exiting system is split...
