Sites Not Defined By ASCE 7 Methods

Thank you all First, Mr. Oldestguy, I have not double-edited; I was surprised to see a message from Mr. Ramakrishna Das, with whom I totally agree. The seismic force calculated by the code does not depend on the type of structure that is being analyzed. It depends on whether of the 5 factors...

Parameters of Seismic Design no defined by ASCE7-16

Thanks for your responses, they have been very helpful. I understand that: The design spectrum or soil acceleration diagram Vs Periods is made without considering the type of structure to be built in it locally, it is a dynamic response characteristic of the site and depends on the periods of...

Parameters of Seismic Design no defined by ASCE7-16

Dear Engineers, I will like to know if some of you have designed structures according ASCE 7 outside USA. In this case is necessary to get the factors SD1, SD2, Ss ,etc for that country. I found in API 650 2018 section EC-4.3 “ Sites not defined by ASCE7 methods” a vey simple an practical...

    Divide Frame Intersection

fattahma7, May be you modeled yor "chimney", with Autocad, and is possible that there is an imprecition in your drawing, that means the frames that you want to divide are in different planes. Try to use a merge joints option or check your model.

desgin steel members using AISC ASD89

Dear ELSarwan, I Think ( and I allways do), you must check the "k" values used by SAP and the effective unbraced lengths. For me, SAP is my assistant, I work as if I were doing the calculation by hand. For the bottom chord of your truss, you have two lengths. In the plane of the truss, "lx" is...

Self-Weight Multiplier for Localized Load Patterns

Dear cfgil, Include the self weight of the entire system. All the elements modeled in the DEAD case are affected with "1.0" or the self weigth is included.

    huge deflection in truss structure

untuksignupsaja, The problem is tha the joint is not connected. Give a Zoom in the joint, and you will see that that joint is not connected.

How to Apply a Unifomed variable load with time

Gentleman, I will like to know how to apply a load like: q = 300t, where t is time. When apply this load the program in assign uniform loads , the progrman does not give the option to apply it. There is another way to applied it? Thanks in advance

Commentaries about the book " Bucket Wheel Excavators"

Friends, May be some of you have used the book " Bucket Wheel Excavators" by Durst and Vogt . I am currently engaged in the structural design of mechanical equipments, Conveyors, reclaimers, etc. Only the structure. This book is allways a reference in all papers and articles I read. I was...

Column classification: Sway or not sway

Hi, You need to say to SAP if the column is restrained to lateral movement or not. If your column is braced, then is not sway, if not , is sway. But you need to analize the the structure if it can move or not from the point of view of engineering, SAP do not make this kind of decition. Test...

    How to import Database ?

I discovered how to recover my file. The secret is to open a new file, and from there go to file --> import--> SAP2000.s2k file Worked

    How to import Database ?

Hi ! I have a model in SAP2000 V.14. Today when tryed to open the file I received the following error : Database data ( InDBFormat) is not correctly initialized. Try importing the file. Somebody had the same problem before and know how to solved?, otherwise I will lost my file. If you...

Joints in continuous T beam foundation ?

Thank demayeng, Yes, I also is the first time to face with a long beam ( 500 m), I also never puted a separation joint in a foundation ( unless in seismic case). Thanks for your opinion, Juan Fuentes

Joints in continuous T beam foundation ?

Dear Friends, I am checking drawings for a continuous concrete inverted T beam foundation. These are two paralell beams, separeted allmost 4,60m. Over these beams is running a Reclaimer machine. The lenght of the beams is 500 m. Do you believe that is necessary a joint construction?. I think...

How to rotate an element a different angle than 90 degres?

Hi , I am modeling a building, where the axis of the building are not orthogonal. I want to aling the web of my column with inclined axis of the building. I tried to use in member modification option --> orientation options ~~~> rotate, and inputed 23 degrees but the rotation always is 90...

Cantilever Beam on both side of Column

Hemal1214 I was saying that you can use the same shape, and make a cut in order to shape a variable "T", that you weld on your original beam. Normally the lenght of the haunch is 1/10 of the lenght of the beam. Then instead of support the your beam over the column, you can use a moment...
