    RS-485 vs Fieldbuses

Can PLC communicate only with RS-485? What i mean is does PLC's only communicate by fieldbuses, which are higher level protocols than RS-485, or if they can communicate with only RS-485? If both are possible what are the differences between the two? You can probably send less complicated data...

Am I right in my protocol hierarchy? (Ethernet up to fieldbus)

Am I right to say that on an Ethernet network PLC communicate with fieldbuses which are "encapsulated" in RS-485 protocol which is "encapsulated" in TCP/IP protocol. If i'm wrong could someone tell me what is the correct hierarchy. Thanx Philippe St-Pierre

    Profibus with Omron and telemecanique

    Can Omron's cqm1 pa203, cpm1a, c 28 k and telemecanique tsx17 PLC's use Profibus fieldbus? If not, do you know an other non-proprietary fieldbus that would work well with those PLC's and Siemens s7-200 cpu224 (2.0) and s7-200 cpu224 (1.0) Thank you Philippe St-Pierre

Difference between Fieldbus and communication protocol

What is the difference between a fieldbus and a communication protocol? Is it that a fieldbus is a communication protocol for different specific PLC's

    How are OPC drivers working?

If I install on a computer OPC drivers (i.e. OPC DX)for all the fieldbuses I have, is the SCADA i'm developping (which is a VB program)will be able to exchange data with the different PLC's through functions and tags contained in the drivers? And can i say that the computer on which all the OPC...

One SCADA or OPC for multiple brand PLC's

Hi, I would like to know if someone knows a SCADA and/or an OPC server than would be able to communicate with Siemens (s7-200 cpu224(2.0),s7-200 cpu224 (1.0)), OMRON (cqm1 pa203, cpm1a, c 28 k), Telemecanique (tsx 17) and Allen Bradley (micrologic 1000) PLC's and a VB program. I'm not sure I...

DDE and Serial Port or Ethernet

I have to start learning DDE to get a PLC to communicate with an application (SQL server) trough to the PC serial port or Ethernet card. I would like to know if anyone has documention to suggest or anything that would help me get in touch with DDE and Serial port and/or Ethernet. Thanx

WinWedge with SIEMENS, TELEMECANIQUE AND OMRON PLC's

I've searched a way to send PLC data into SQL server and I found the WinWedge software. Has anyone tried it out? What do you think about it? Do you know a better software or a better way to collect information from a PLC (more precisely SIEMENS, TELEMECANIQUE AND OMRON PLC's) and send it in SQL...
