Having worked in papermills for the last 10+ years and been subjected to some "real time engineering sollutions" here are my two cents.
Not only do you need large enough drains but also drains in the right places. I follow these rules of thumb and have designed many troublefree return...
I agree with previous and would like to add the following. The MTBF includes those units that failed early on. The actual life expectancy for the units still in operation at that time may very well be significantly longer. If you have many pumps of the same kind, running under similar conditions...
I have a problem with piping of 12.5% chlorine. It seems like the piping but especially fittings don't last a month before they start to leak. Even if this takes place within a contained area it is still a safety problem and the smell is bad. We are using PVC pipe. Long time ago (before me) the...
It depends on the size of the pump. Thermal expansion is liniar so the actual alignment offset caused by this will vary with the size of the equipment. When I have pumps that pump very hot liquids such as boiler feed water I try to have them brought close to operating temp before alignment. In...
I have hard knox experience and have gone thru the process of evolution in this area. Let's first look at what you want to accomplish. I would assume that your primary concern is to maintain a constant pressure to your process. Probably your actual flow is relativly low (less then or close to...
No railcar access, unfortunately. The heating coil use to be replaced every two years. Five years ago I finally replaced it with a stainless coil and have had no problems since. Once a year I have the steam/condensate side cleaned. One contractor suggested placing new pieces of sheetmetal in tar...
Thank you Taylorg.
To ansver your questions. The fuel is #6 fueloil, it does require heating before it can be pumped. The oil in the tank is kept hot with an internal steam heater and with an externernal heatexchanger (recirc loop).
The tank is about 40 years old.
I have no second tank to draw...
OK since it appears to be OK to dog down on the process guys let me continue. Many times have I come in contact with a basic system where a standard pump (Goulds 3196 or similar) is used to pump thru a pipe and then a control valve will control the flow. Often the pipe is sized for a reasonable...
I saw a building site in Europe where a man walked around with a clamp (spot) welder and used this in place of metal wire. He was moving right along so it was probably more a question of time. I believe that the reinforcement mesh is made this way (spotwelded). I would be concerned to depend on...

I have a problem with a 70,000 gal oil tank. The sheetmetal roof is corroded. Actually several small holes has developed (approx. 1/8" diameter). When...
