    Engineering : employement and future

Scoobystu wrote: Basically if you look at it mathematically rather than romantically then you have a much better chance of having a partner and a job that you were happy with if you decided to move. As for us chicks in engineering, there are just so many potential partners to choose from! ;)

    Engineering : employement and future

Greg Locock wrote in thread730-63385: "In Australia we are having difficulty recruiting experienced engineers, of specific types, but that is partly because we don't train enough technical stream engineers up." I'm in oz, I am not that experienced but I'm very willing to be train up...

Encouraging women to enroll in engineering

I can only speak from my own experience. My dad is a civil engineer so he was encouraging when I decided to do mechanical engineering. Mum (and other relatives) was the one who was worry that the work might be too dirty, the environment too male dominated etc. There was only 3 other females...

Does more "hands-on" work make a better design/manufacturing engineer?

If I don't get to do much "hands-on" stuff at work, would a hobby help? I guess it depends on the job and what knowledge is required. I'm about to start working on restoring a Renault 12 TL. Is it something I could mention in interviews or is it too trivial?

Thanks for the replies guys. Didn't expect responses so soon :) To tell the truth I wasn't too happy about getting this task. I did not want to become a testing engineer and an admin staff who maintain the database, both of whom did the benchmarking before me but had left. Management is keen...

Hi, I am wondering if there is any engineer out there who has experience in Competitive Analysis/Product Benchmarking. Could anyone give me any guidance or tips on how to perform this job without becoming a "librarian" please? Any websites or resources that would be helpful? Thank you.

Does more "hands-on" work make a better design/manufacturing engineer?

STF "Overall, any experience is good experience, and as long as you sponge up as much as you can, you'll be getting better every day. I agree, but what if say only 10% of work that I do now will be useful to where I want to go? I am getting increasing frustrated in my current role. I'm...

Does more "hands-on" work make a better design/manufacturing engineer?

Hi all, Thanks for all your advices. Sorry I didn't reply sooner - I wanted to wait until I hear a yay or nay from the company first. I got the answer last week, and it was a nay :( It seems that (so I was told) since I last talked to them, more people had left the company and now they needed...

Does more "hands-on" work make a better design/manufacturing engineer?
