    Paralleling Different Cable size

Chapter 3 article 310.4 states "the paralled conductors in each phase ... shall: a)be the same length b)have the same condcutor material c)be the same size d) have the same insul type e) be terminated in the same manner" Which one is correct for the following: - Phase A =OK to have two...

    Paralleling Different Cable size

Hi, What will happen if 4/O and 240mm2 underground medium voltage 33kV cable is paralled? it's used as a part of overhead line 33kV at the beginning of the circuit. Regards, Eskim

Synchronized generator with different nominal voltage

Hi All, Our existing generators are 11,000 V +/-5% output voltage. We set AVR 3% above nominal volt (11,350). Gens are running with voltage control set. What do you think If a new gen 10,500 V +/-5% will be synchronized with existing system. It should run 8% over its nom volt. Regards, Sumadi

    Speed up motor

Dear All, I have very basic question, but make me inconfidence regard to speeding up induction motor. The existing nameplate is 600kW, 3.3kV and 2965rpm. We have to upgrade the feed pump system by installing VSD to control this motor up to max 3400 rpm. (operating will be 3100rpm) The question...

    Terminal Lugs

Dear All, Please confirm me for this small confussion. Can I use non-insulated 600V terminal lug to be used for 11kV arrester circuit ? In my opinion Yes, since voltage will effect to insulation material only so for non-insulated doesn't matter.

    3-phase Power Calculation

Thank you all. Sorry, I am not an active member of this forum I just open this if i have problems. My calculation showed (-) sign since the angle of current are not in correct direction I think. I have to correct CT connection for this relay, and will come up eith the result next time ?

    Hi-Z on LV Overhead Line

What does NPS (voltage/current) mean? "BTW, we had thread on the topic." What is the topic subject title..? Can I use 59G relay with input comes from broken delta PT tapped from 400V line directly? Eskim

    Hi-Z on LV Overhead Line

Dear All, Sorry if this question has been posted before, I have found 2 thread about E/F protection on D-Y transformer, but not cover my question below. 1. We have experience Hi-Z fault on LV(400V) O/H line which is supplied by 11/0.4kV Delta-Star with solid grounded pole XFMR around 50kVA. At...

Diode and Thyristor Failure in Generator Exciter

The exciter is staked from PMG/pilot exciter --> AVR --> exciter stator --> exciter rotor --> finally to main field winding. The broken diode and thyristor is at the exciter rotor put in generator shaft, unfortunately I can't attach the drawing. In the normal running with 27MW (our Turb Gen is...

Diode and Thyristor Failure in Generator Exciter

Dear All, I've problem above for the last two days. The six-pole, full wave rectifier have one diode and thyristor broken at the same time. We have over current and over voltage relay picked up at excitation control (V~4000V and I~40A). My question: 1. Why the current and voltage at excitation...

    AC and DC HiPot Tester

Dear All, What is the based difference between AC and DC HiPot tester. When I test HV equipment e.g. Surge arrester, cable, generator winding, etc. What is the best method using ac or dc tester ? Some one told me that mA is the "most important" to select DC or AC ? I didn't understand what...

    Surge Arrrester for Transformer

Dear All, I am not experience in T&D. But our transformer using Lightning Arrester on HV connected to transmission line. How to get proper spec of arrester for this transformer (theory, calculation, standars, etc). Also the LA is connected with discharge counter(?) what is the function of...

    Generator Reverse Power Protection

Thank you for your responses. Actually, we often have Rev. Pwr trip caused our loads are very dynamic (SHOVELS) and other big motors. Also our 9 diesel engines are same location with 4 (120MW's) steam turbines which have slow response for any load reduction. Diesel operator is little bit...

    Generator Reverse Power Protection

All, Our 5,1128 MW's diesel engines have Reverse Power Prot. setting of 0.04 x Rated MW, it used both to stop the diesel engine and open main circuit breaker. Can I just open the circuit breaker not stopping diesel engine ? Could you please explain me of the following scenario: * With existing...
