    Turbocharger specifications

mdf3443 - If the correct turbo is a Borg-Warner K27, the compressor map for the K27 says that 100 % of max turbo speed is 150 KRPM. I found a picture of the compressor map on line by searching for: Borg-Warner K27 turbo compressor map My opinion...

    Transient intake manifold temperature

StomptingGuy- My recommendation: re-run the baseline case with this one difference: make the engine displacement 20 % smaller. Predicted result: the temperature drop will be smaller and the duration shorter.

    diesel exhaust heat recovery

Regarding the "adiabatic" diesel engine that BigClive mentioned: Roy Kamo did a lot of work on this, most of it government funded. I saw him give his sales pitch once in the 1990's. He founded a little company that still does stuff related to thermal barrier coatings, etc...

    Need help with reading materials

Nashx- Which book to choose depends on what info you need. I work with engines and hence think these are helpful: Introduction to Internal Combustion Engines by Richard Stone Internal Combustion Engine Fundamentals by John B. Heywood. McGraw-Hill Book Company, New York, New York...

    Cummins NT855 fuel pump adjustment

Hi- There is some info available on the Cummins website: http://cumminsfirepower.com/Legacy-Engines.htm Scroll down a bit on the above website until you find some NT-855 engines listed. There are also some contacts listed just below that. I hope that this helps...

    Reciprocating Engines running Ethane

Enginumeer- Ethane is more resistant to autoignition than gasoline ---- compare their RON and MON numbers. So you may be able to advance the spark timing a bit and improve efficiency without getting into knock On the other hand, compressor oil autoignites very...

Running 2008 6.4 L Super Duty PowerStroke on off-road diesel?

Pat- Removing the DPF is illegal--- Also, the engine may have a two-way catalyst uptream of the DPF. A two-way catalyst would be poisoned by high sulfur but would probably recover after some high load operation. Re-installing the DPF is probably a hassle since things...

    Toroidal Opposed Piston Engine

Hi- This engine design is similar to some previous designs. Examples: The Tschudi engine was a spark ignition engine with four curved pistons running in a torodial track. But this was a four stroke engine, not two stroke. Also, the James two stroke opposed piston engine had pistons...

    Ceramic Adiabatic Engine

Hi- There have been several adiabatic engine projects in the past. Example: Cummins had one in the 1980's. Google this: R. Kamo W. Bryzik There are some SAE papers. Example: "Adiabatic diesel-engine technology in future transportation " by Roy Kamo...

Can I run an old Volvo truck (1947-1957) on palm oil

Hi- Copper / bronze seals or sealing components are usually damaged by bio fuels. I suspect that the engine you have is equipped with seals made with copper or bronze. So expect some leaks to develop. j2bprometheus

Fuel Efficient Methanol 4 stroke engines (for quads)

What about using diesel fuel? There are small diesel motorcycles available: Sommer Diesel 462 Sommer Motorradtechnik produces the Sommer Diesel 462. The engine is rated at 8 kW (11 PS). The bike reaches top speed of 65 miles per hour (105 km/h), and achieves 95 miles per US gallon (40 km/l).

    Compression ratio question

Dicer- I vaguely remember a NASA paper about a free piston engine with compression ratios of about 100. I think that this was analysis only, but I am not certain. It was completely impractical. As compression ratio goes up, peak cylinder pressure goes up for the same...

    Power that a compressor takes

Dcasto- Yes, intake manifold pressure is downstream of the turbo or blower. The intake manifold is also downstream of the charge air cooler or after-cooler. There is a significant pressure drop from the compressor outlet to the intake manifold. The intake manifold is...

    Power that a compressor takes

GMATH- As zdas04 says, the manufacturer of the gas engine should be able to tell you approximately how much power the engine is putting out given the engine speed, intake manifold pressure, and, perferably, intake manifold temperature. The engine manufacturer may want to know what...

diesel engine using JetA1 as fuel,,

mosco2759- You should check to see if this would void your warrenty. What year is this vehicle? Does the engine use EGR? I would worry that the lubricity of the Jet A1 fuel might not be good enough for a modern high pressure common rail system...
