Lighten a solid created from surfaces

I've create a solid with the "close surface" tool (CATpart workbench), from about 500 small areas. Now my file is too big: 11 MEG. I’d like to know if it's possible to lighten my solid (e.g. detach the solid from the areas...) Thanks.

    STL file into surfaces

The only way I found is to create a loft surface trough splines. (The spline passed by points of your cloud). But if you find free software, tell me!

    Fit surface on lines.

Hi, Can anybody know the best way to fit a surface trough a group of parallel lines? I’ve try with the PowerFit tool of the “Quick Surface Reconstruction” workbench, but that doesn’t work very well for me (I have a cloud of points of a vertebra model). Thanks, Pierre.

    post-graduate study in biomedical eng.

Dear palex, Like you, I'm currently in my last year of mechanical eng at L'École Polytechnique de Montréal. My field of interest is finite element analysis in biomechanics, and I I'm thinking of doing a master degree too. Let me know the result of your research please. Thanks.

Make a solid with STL or IGES file

Hi, Does anyone know how to make a solid from a .STL file? I have a vertebra model, then it's not looking like any primitive solids. Maybe I can convert my .STL vertebra to a IGES, if it's easier to create the solid from an IGES.
