Do smaller engineering firms expect the engineers to do their own drafting? I was taught to do my own design/drafting, but my partner wants to hire a CAD operator and have us funnel our drafting to them so we can focus on design. We don't use high horse-power tools like Revit, 2-D AutoCAD is...
We have been asked to investigate the requirements for an external egress ladder for a building addition (on top of an existing building) to a feed mill plant. There is an internal stair included in the proposed new construction. I can't find any regulations regarding ladders, cages, landing...
Shin,
I don't see why you wouldn't use a portion of your slab to resist uplift. If you are using a hairpin for horizontal rx, it must be integrally tied around the column anchor bolts, so I see no reason that you wouldn't at least include the weight of the chunk of slab covered by the hairpin...
Thanks for the varied responses! We ended up going with a VPN (virtual private network) and we just log into it from any remote location and we can open files (without having to save them to our hard drive first) modify them and save them back to the remote server, located in our other office...
Are you allowed to retain a copy your own sealed work for your personal records? What about if you change jobs? Can you take a copy of the work you produced with you (assuming it is not proprietary)? Am I not still responsible for the design whether I work for Company A or Company B? What if...
Two partners, two offices. Currently using FTP which copies a file to my hard drive, then I copy it back - partner could be doing same thing at same time on the same file - creates a huge opportunity for problems. We need a way to access a file remotely, as if we're right in the same office...
I graduated when I was 30 and returning to get my degree was the best move I ever made. The only downside as I see it was that colleagues and clients expected me to have about 7 years more experience than I had, because of my age. If you can get with an employer that will show you the ropes...
the UCS axis looks like 3-d with three colors. Any idea how it got that way and how to get it back to the 2-d view? Have no idea how it got changed to that.
Does anyone have a picture of what a puddle weld with weld washers 'should' look like on steel roof deck? I was recently on a site inspection and other than identifying burn through, I couldn't tell a good weld from a mediocre one. Thanks in advance.
I'm looking at drawings from 1921 and for the 2nd floor plan it says 3C 32" 67 s.f. It looks like a poured conc floor. Any ideas as to what this means? Thanks
