Power in 3 Phase Electric Motors

All, I just received this article that helped me sort out what rdrago is shooting for by converting to a VFDs. Power Factor Improved by Variable Speed AC Drives http://www.drivesurvey.com/index_library.cfm?feature_id=70 wwilson

Hook up wire with numberal printed on them.

All, I found a few companies that do custom striping and printing. No off the shelf options. There are two main technologies (from what I could tell.) The first is some sort of steel wheel with the text engraved at regular intervals. I assume this is a fairly low tech. giving the marking at a...

Differences between different makes of servo-motors

Compumotor satisfied client here. I've been impressed with Compumotor products since the BE product line. Emailing questions to Pac. Sci technical support is a waist of time -they say contact the distributor. I know Kollmorgan, Pac-Sci, and others are all owned by one company now, and we've been...

Power in 3 Phase Electric Motors

The data I supplied was for a 5% line reactor. I think the difference between a 5% and 3% would be fairly small but I don't have any data to support that. We tested MTE, Hammond, and Trans-coil line reactors. Let us all know how things go. wwilson

Power in 3 Phase Electric Motors

I have not found any power factor corrected VFD's in 1-5hp (our typical size range), but I feel that active PFC is an option to look for. Smaller drive mfg's do not tend to worry about harmonics, but when you get 100+ drives in a building taking current at the same time, you see very high peak...

Power in 3 Phase Electric Motors

rdrago, I would recommend doing some measurements prior to committing to buying 50 drives. I think power factor of the drives may vary depending on the current requirements - load/speed. As I recall, looking at the input current to the drive, will look like a switching power supply - current is...

Power in 3 Phase Electric Motors

We use a Fluke 41B or a Fluke 39 power meter. They are designed specifically for measuring power and provide information on harmonic content. I've saw places on the web that where you can rent them. wwilson

Hook up wire with numberal printed on them.

We would like to identify the phase conductors "1", "2", or "3" in a 3 phase system instead of using color coding. Since the machinery goes to seveal places around the world. Thanks, wwilson

Hook up wire with numberal printed on them.

I am looking for a supplier that has an off the shelf or can do custom marking to print white "1" "2" or "3" on black wire (16-6AWG.) Has anyone found such a wire? Thanks, Wayne

    Numbered Black Conductors Source?

I'm looking for numbered hook up wire - individual conductors with numbers printed on them, not cable with numbered conductors inside the jacket. Wayne

    Numbered Black Conductors Source?

We are designing a machine to operate in the USA, Europe and other areas (China, Singapore, Puerto Rico, etc.) We'll use a transformer to provide 208 5-wire 3phase internal to the machine. I've come to the conclusion that phase color coding L1/L2/L3 N will be very difficult (to make all...

Machine Main Disconnect Lockout Neutral Question.

I'm in the process of selecting a main power disconnect switch for a piece of equipment (208 3ph 5wire 40A). The switch is the Red/Yellow round door mount main disconnect/lockout type. Several manufactures have a late-break early-make neutral disconnect option. Is there a reason, code or...

15kva DELTA to WYE tranformer loading

I am in process of designing a machine that requires a 15kVA transformer to accommodate international voltages. INPUT: DELTA 380/400/415/480 L1-L2-L3, Earth OUTPUT: 208 L1-L2-L3-N (N bonded to Earth) The balanced loads will be a 6kw heater (30% duty cycle) and a 1hp blower. The remaining loads...
