I am looking for information on designing the flights for a shaftless screw conveyor based on the pitch, diameter, angle of incline, etc.
I have the screw torque, motor rating, product density.
Maybe there is a design guide or sample calc somewhere.
thanks.
In the design of the drilled shaft to acommodate a long span rigid frame, how is the lateral force handled from the rigid frame reactions, which is substantial? Do you tie back into the slab or tie the columns together with enough tension reinforcing that the load cancels out?
I need an approach to come up with the longitudinal load induced by acceleration/deceleration of a car body mover in an automobile plant. The capacity of the mover is 3000 lbs and runs about 450 ft/min. I would the time to reach this velocity is about 1 sec.
I was curious how many engineers carry "errors and omissions" insurance when doing consulting work on the side, not as their main source of income, i.e. "moonlighting"
I have searched for the OSHA requirement for the minimum overhead clearance for maintenance platforms. Anyone have an idea? I have always used 7', but I think OSHA allows 6'-10" or 6'-8".
From the responses, I gather there is no HSS specification implementing ASD. Like imagineer said, I guess I will just design it using LRFD. I was hoping to keep everything in ASD, since the whole structure is designed that way. I guess the only part of the puzzle I am missing is the allowable...
I have a few questions for the design of HSS.
1. Why are the property tables different for HSS in the LRFD design specification from the properties given in the AISC ASD 9th ed for TS sections?
2. In design, to allow for the torsional effects of eccentric loading, the LRFD spec combines the...
welding1,
I have sent you an email requesting the example of the open top rectangular tank with continuous horizontal wall stiffeners. If you can still send it to me, I'd appreciate it. Thanks
john.riley@encompasstx.com
Just my initial thought about the stiffeners, I would have thought the stiffeners would be configured for the minimum length to support, i.e. the horizontal stiffeners will be supporting 10' of tank shell, where as the vertical stiffeners would be supporting 18' of tank shell.
I am looking at a design of a water storage tank. The tank is not under pressure, so my design approach will be to accommodate only the hydrostatic pressure. This tank is rectangular due to installation constraints. The dimensions are 10'X4'-6"x18'tall. I am having a hangup on the...
I guess installing piles 8' on centers may be required depending on the soils report. Another concern is expansive soils. Would void forms be a possibility if the entire slab is supported on the piles. I have used this on larger foudnations, pile caps, etc. I would expect if the expansive...
I am still having concerns about the load on the "slab" spanning between the piles or the conc beams spanning between the piles. At the 10' deep end the water pressure on the bottom is 624#/sf. This is quite high for the piles and the slabs.
I was looking for reference material for the design of a commercial swimming pool. I have very little experience in this, mostly trying to relate it to cooling tower basin design. This installation, I believe will be in an area with expansive clays. My contact mentioned putting the pool on...
I am doing an analysis of a carport that is already constructed. The allowable loading needs to be determined for permit purposes. I can't find any reference to live load for carport roofs in UBC. The closest I can find is the 12 psf for standard roof loading. The trouble is that the carport...
