Normal practice is to radiograph pipe butt welds prior to hydrotesting. Is this a defined requirement as per Ansi B31.3 or is it as a general safety issue only?

It is a T connection however the angle bevel does not change as in pipe-pipe connection and I cannot find conclusive definition in AWS D1.1 for T K Y for plate-pipe connection, it only mentions plate-plate or pipe-pipe, thus my original question. Any ideas?
