Deifne a Report -> "Exception Thrown"

Try to create the report as html instead of .doc and see if it works.

    Structural members

Yes, that is the only was to analyze them using beams. Otherwise you can use solid and/or shells.

Floworks: streamlines passing THRU solid :(

Hi, You have the option of creating just the mesh in CFW before running the analysis. I would suggest using this to make sure that all the features are properly resolved by the mesher after you make changes to the model. If the automatic mesh settings are not resolving the solid & fluid regions...

COSMOS error message: unable to open temporary files

Make sure you have read/write access to the temporary directory. Also check that the working directory is not full (where the TEMP and TMP environment variables point). If this does not work then repair the installation of SW/COSMOS.

After a solution, is there a way to get max pressure on a surface?

Yes, Results --> Surface Plots. Better way is to set up a surface goal before the analysis.

How do Floworks interations relate to time?

Have you tried a time dependent analysis with output options specified to save the initial results? I don't think the iterations are related to real time in a steady state analysis.

    Probe Results, Sensor

reilly22, i did exactly what you have described here and couldn't reproduce it. i see the values for the sensor locations after using Probe in the feature manager. i'm on SW/CW 07 SP2.

    Modeling a fan in floworks

This function has been in CFW for quiet sometime. It is described well in the documentation and there is a tutorial too. The documentation and tutorails are not in the most accessible place. Look for these in a folder called 'lang' in the FloWorks installation folder.

    Sealed Container under pressure

If the geometry is symmetric then model 1/2 or 1/4 of the geometry and use symmetry BCs to constrain the model.

    BCs for a stool

Greg, I'm not sure I understand your post fully.......would you elaborate on it a bit more?

    BCs for a stool

Thanks for your replies. The area at the base is not large, the legs are made of tubular steel. I will apply the BCs as described by John and see how the model behaves. Appreciate your inputs!

    BCs for a stool

I have to analyze an assembly very similar to a stool (4 legs welded to a flat plate) and was wondering what is the best way to apply restraints without using symmetry. The legs can spread out but cannot move vertically. I can restrain UZ but what about UX & UY? I'm using 2nd order tets for...

    CosmosWorks Modelling question

Have you tried using the Bolt Connectors? For this you'll have to include the part that the flange is bolted to. This part can be approximated by a simple plate with a large EX if it is not critical. There are always going to be high stresses at the restrained nodes.

    Floworks locking computer

the first iteration in FloWorks usually takes the longest time. also, FloWorks is very RAM intensive. be careful about the no.of cells that are generated. in general, for a 1GB RAM machine the no.of cells should be below 250,000. try running the analysis without any refinements first.

    FLoWorks help

when you plot the mesh on a 2D plane do you see this component resolved properly?? if the component is not resolved then the flow would go right through it. if the component is thin as compared to other components then you might have to specify the min. wall thickness or use control planes for...

    Cosmosworks for Solidworks 2000

I think COSMOSWorks 6.0 was the version for SW 2000. It's going to be very difficult if you are trying to obtain that version and its license.

    Looking for FE package ~$10000

FEModule, I would suggest you take a look at COSMOS DesignStar also. It has great CAD associativity and handles Material Non-Linearities along with the functionalities you mentioned like buckling, Frequency analysis and ofcourse, Linear Static. I think this package costs under $10,000 and they...

8 nodes 24 DOF brick element stiffness formulation

This and a lot of other useful formulations are given in the book "Finite Element Analysis using Matlab". It is by a Korean author, I don't recollect the name. It is a very good reference book. You can also refer "The Finite Element Method in Engineering" by S.Rao. It has...
