Does ASME Require That All Vessels Be NB Registered?

I think he is talking about the 'NB' stamp. This is relatively new (last year, I think) stamp that the national board has manufacturers stamp on national board registered vessels only along with the registration number. In the past, all the manufacturers had to do was apply the words...

    Flued Openings

Thanks to ER and unclesyd~ What I am wondering is: a) the basis of design (weld sizing) for a joint which looks like fig. UW-13.1(e) (I know this joint shown is for a head to shell - just using it to clarify what I want my nozzle to look like). and b) what paragraph can I use in UW-16 to...

    Large SS vessel passivation

Never done anything that large, but have rigged a sprayball type devices in top of vessel w/ recirc pump to get solution over vessel area for the designated time period. You might need several sprayballs on a column to insure coverage of the surface area. See ASTM A-380 for solutions...

    VIII-1 "Part" Question.

GatorOne makes an interesting point which applies to repair/alteration activities. I am only familiar with NBIC type repairs, although I understand there are other repair standards available (API, etc.). NBIC repair would have the construction of the repair (and any replacement parts)...

    VIII-1 "Part" Question.

In my experiance, the following has applied: 1)The "part" stamping should not contain any design info (because the end assembler is responsible for the complete design, which is included on the final stamping and U-1 report). Also, the "part" design info is on the U-2 report...

    Implosion of Pressure Vessels.

Probably not associated with your failure, but I have seen the following failure states. FYI for other readers: 1) Empty tank was cleaned by a CIP (clean-in-place) process with 170-190 F caustic solution. Tank drained leaving misty vapor in tank. Next, hit tank with 50 degree F cold water...

    Interpretation of Radiographs UW-51/UW-52?

If I am understanding your series of questions correctly, I agree with your conclusion that UW-51 may not be used to satisfy the spot radiography requirement of UW-11(a)(5)(b). However, I would take the "...as a minimum..." part of the sentance in UW-11(a)(5)(b) to mean that you may...

    Flued Openings

ASME Sec. VIII, Div 1: I have a flued opening per UG-38 and wish to attach a through nozzle by a single fillet weld. I am not aware of this configuration in UW-16. Is there somewhere else I ought to be looking? Cheers, WRW

ASME CODE CASE 2148; USE OF SS BAR FOR NOZZLES

Our AIA has informed me that 2148 was "under ballot for reaffirmation" and I should go ahead and consider it reaffirmed as reaffirmations are rarely defeated in committee, if ever. The ASME has yet to update the web info on this, however. http://cstools.asme.org/CodeCases.cfm...
