Just started studying for the PE. I'm already frustrated!

Shaggy: I think you mean 80 questions total, don't you? 40 in the AM and 40 in the PM? (Sheesh...I sure hope so since I'm taking it this Oct.!) My hovercraft is full of eels.

    PRVs downstream of regulators

Thanks iainuts for the reply. I was hoping to get a quote from B31.3 so I didn't have to buy it but it might be worth the investment after all. My hovercraft is full of eels.

    PRVs downstream of regulators

Hi all. I found some info on this topic but that thread is closed so I will ask away. I am required to spec, install and maintain the history record for PRV/PSVs on compressed gas regulators on 250 co.ft cylinders. We use mostly nitrogen, air, helium and 5% hydrogen/ 95%nitrogen mixtures. I...

    Filtering hydrocarbon vapors

unclesyd: That's a good idea, thanks. My hovercraft is full of eels.

    Filtering hydrocarbon vapors

Hi molten. Actually, the medium being vacuumed is soil and pea gravel that MAY have some fuels in it, not by any means puddles of gas or soaked absorbent or anything like that. Still, any vapors exposed to an ignition source is a no-no of course. Shop vacs run at 5K rpm? I didn't know that...

source for low quantity custom bolt

Good news. BTW where/what is the link where you found the info? I couldn't find anything on the 'net. PS how many parts of what length/configuration do you need? My hovercraft is full of eels.

source for low quantity custom bolt

dgowans: I just found some info on the thread mentioned above. You may get a die made for this application at Western Tap Manufacturing, http://www.westerntap.com/ if you want to do this yourself. I spoke to Rob (he's a genius with this stuff) and he knew exactly what I was talking about. This...

source for low quantity custom bolt

http://www.praxairservices.com/ go to "contact us" then down to Tucson, AZ to get one of our numbers. Ask for Brian My hovercraft is full of eels.

source for low quantity custom bolt

I can probably make you a small quantity of whatever you need. Some questions: too what does the "18-18" refer? If the second "18", pitch, is 18 tpi, what does the first "18" mean? Do you have a requirement for head size, material quality i.e. tensile and yield or other specs these need to...

    Filtering hydrocarbon vapors

Thanks for the reply, moltenmetal. I guess I was thinking that the motor was separate from the intake stream. Perhaps I can replace the standard motor with a hazardous location type. I'll have to think about this more. My hovercraft is full of eels.

    Filtering hydrocarbon vapors

Hi all. I don't know if this is the right forum for this so sorry if it's not. I am wondering if it is possible to filter gasoline or diesel or fuel oil, etc. vapors out of a stream of air coming from a shop vac. As you may have guessed, the shopvac is not expolsion-proof/inherently safe but I...

    Multi Pitch Threads?

    High Strength wire

jsy211: A few questions. 1.Why do you need such a high strength wire? Is it because you are trying to eliminate plastic deformation or do you need the strength for structural purposes? 2.Rather than eliminate plastic deformation, which I don't think you can, why not use a very plastic wire, such...

    WD 40

And if you ever want anything to squeak, rust or otherwise fail, use WD-40! I hate the stuff, although it does work well for removing duct tape residue, which I also hate! It worked alright for starting a car that had a flooded distributor (with points), but a better lubricant is 3-in-1 and a...

    Cast Aluminum Welding

Tony B: NO, you can't do it with what you have. There is no "special" rod that will allow you to stick-weld aluminum.

    Brazing .030" thick Aluminum

bri72: It sounds as if the component (tab?) can be easily TIG welded. I can't go into the many variables with this process here, but a good welder in your area will know how. I can go into more detail, if you wish.

    Folding stainless steel sheet

Packie, you need to specify the thickness of the 304-2B sheet! It makes all the difference in the world when discussing bend radii.

    heat treating 416 steel

losochos: There are many variables in heat-treating, so it's hard to be specific because you have not provided any details (part geometry, type of furnace, etc.). But generally speaking, 416SS is austenitized at 1700-1850 deg F, oil-quenched, then tempered at 1050-1125 deg F. If you use an...
