Hello:
Do you know if ACI covers increasing the compressive strength of concrete based on confinement of surrounding concrete, and if so which code?
Thanks,
Matt Palermo
The casting is large (approx 2’x2’x1’), in place on a dam in a river and cannot be placed on a table. Is it common procedure to preheat 1918 vintage annealed steel prior to welding? And is 350 degrees a similar temperature that would be recommended in preheating the casting prior to welding so...
Thank you for all of your replies. The chemical composition is unknown. If I were to perform a chemical composition test to find the CE, once I have the results, where would I look to determine the proper welding procedures including preheating and cooling. Is a chemical composition test...
Hello:
thank you for your reply. How do you mean that the fact that it is annealed is in my favor? The heat will not damage the annealed steel? Also, could you please expain what is a wet flourescent MT and how it would help me?
And would this have to be slowly cooled post welding?
Thanks again
Thank you for your reply. The annealed casting has not been welded on previously. I would be welding a 5/16" fillet weld on it. We are primarly concerned that he heat from the welding would damage the annealed steel. We would prefer not to conduct a field test if possible, but you find...
Hello:
A Tainter gate (structural steel radial gate at a hydro project in the USA), circa 1918, is being modified to withstand Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) mandated seismic loadings.
Part of the modification work requires welding to the existing trunnion (pivot point support)...

Hello:
Do you know if there are any journals, specifications or publications discussing the weld design of a cover plate in an orientation such that one weld (of 2) would be in tension and the other in compression (the plate extends on both sides of the neutral axis of the composite shape)...
