    Stresses At Boundary Locations

Dear FEA Gurus, I think there was lot of discussion before on the topic i am going to post it now . 1.FEA analysis is performed on curved beam, and the boundary conditions are identical to the curved cantilver beam. 2.The geometry is somewhat comlicated to be calculated with hand calculations...

    CONTACT STRESSES

Dear FEA gurus, I am performing contact stress analysis on an assmebly that has male and female mating parts (similar to dovetail joint). I made sure that mesh is good (most of the elements that are part of the contact area has aspect ratio close to 1 and meshed with brick elements).High contact...

Prediction of fatigue load from FEA

Is there a way to predict fatigue load from FEA performed? I always perform FEA on the model and compare the stresses to yeild strength of the material. For most of the materials I think fatigue strength of the material is about 50-60% of the ultimate strength of the material. In that case my...

3 Point bend test validation with FEA

Group, I am trying to validate 3point bend test performed on a screw with FEA by comparing displacement values. From the test the Screw defelcted atmost of 1 mm, i tried to check the same with FEA but I am surprised that i dont get the same deflection, its deviating almost 35%. I performed FEA...

von mises stress vs maximum shear stress

Drej, vm stresses account for all the stresses:compressive, bending and shear.but in case of pure torsion to circular rod there should be only pure shear stresses, so what accounts for the rest that vm stresses are higher than shear stresses. thanks

von mises stress vs maximum shear stress

hello group, I have applied pure torque to the circular rod constrained at opposite end and examined the stresses, but i found that von mises stress so different from maximum shear stress,i got von mises as 75ksi whereas maximum shear as 55ksi. I am just wondering how the von mises stress is so...

    stress calculation from strain gauge

Hello, I am trying to validate the stress results from FEA with mechanical testing.I have microstrain values from the strain gauge, how can i get the von mises stress values from the mechanical testing data that i have?.Do i need to take modulus of elasticity (E=stress/strain) coupled with...

    Changing the coordinate system

I would like to know if theres any option where we can change the coordinate system, eventhough the model is created at the origin in the cad modeller,mini-axis doesnt show the model at the origin,is mini axis the reference coordinate system in algor?? Thank you all

    Local Mesh Refinement-UG Scenario

Hello all, I would like to know if we can locally refine a mesh in a particcular region,if so how? Thank you

    Local Mesh Refinement-UG Scenario

Is there any option in UG-scenario where i can do local mesh refinement at some particular region Thank you in advance.

Difference between theorticall and experimental results

CMFG/Bruce/Prex Thank you for the feedback,It was a good suggestion by CMFG that shear locking is common with thin plates modelled with low order elements,I see that the problem was rectified by changing the type of elements. Thank you all.

Difference between theorticall and experimental results

Hello, I performed simple test on a plate(steel) subjected to bending (both experimental and FEA-static linear) but i found out that the results from the experimental study and FEA was quite different. The deflections observed in the experimental study are very high compared to the FEA...

    post processing of results

Hello, I would like to know how we report the stress results at a critical region ?( should be averaged at nodes or without averaged at nodes) Thanks

    stress evaluation in critical areas

Thank you julian, gur, jetand cb4,i agree with you all that its better to omit that particular node, and chk the stress values a little far from that node.

    stress evaluation in critical areas

hello, I did a simple fea test (analogous to cantilever beam),I am to evaluate the region of critcial stresses in the beam,I find that the stresses are high at the constrained end.I refined the mesh to as fine as possible, but my question is should i consider the stress-concentration region...

    3 point bending test

hello, I would like to know the type of constraints for three point bending tests. Is it constrained in all directions in both ends with load applied centrally? or partially constrained at the end?.

maixmum principal stress greater than von mises stress

hello, I ran my static analysis on curved beam subjected to bending loads and found that the maximum principal stress is greater than the vonimises stress at a particular node. Both the stresses below the yield st. Can any one explain what accounted for this differnce. meher.
