The error files just contain the ^C command which is presumably written when I close the command window.
No other logs or owt, except the .STOP files as usual.

feadude, I don't think it's really feasible to go through every step of the install with you here, it's just too complex. The param file is called ideas_param10 (10 being the release number). The file is a text file, edit it with notepad, look for entries that read like this...
Yes, i've tried it with NT and 2k compatibility, no difference.
feadude, I had the same problem initially, but I overcame this by moving the home directory locations in the param file.

i've recently installed the above on XP and despite spending many years as an Ideas sys admin, I can't get over this problem:
The application fails to start. The command prompt stops at "You are running Ideas with the OGL driver" as I would expect but nothing happens after that...
