RFreund,
I prefer segmental walls. But, some builders want to save money. I don't know how much they can save. The answer I commonly get from the builders is that the timber walls being constructed for long time and they can stand several years. I believe there may be some way to design these...
Does anybody know how to design a timber retaining wall with tieback and deadman? Can I get reference anywhere? My wall height is approximately 4.5 feet.
thanks
Friends,
Thanks for your input. According to Joints in concrete construction (ACI 2243r) code/manual, movements in the wall can be expected up to 0.5 inches if we space the expansion joints at 100 ft o.c. My question is do we need to calculate the spacing based on the expected temp. change or...
Does anybody know what is the maximum expansion joint spacing for cantilever retaining walls? My seniors(in previous work place) used to recommend 50 ft. o/c. I heard from some people that it can be up to 100 ft o/c. I appreciate your help.
Thanks and Happy New Year
Dear friends,
Thank you all for your valuable suggestions.
Initially, I didn't consider the footing for the CIP facing and I designed the CIP facing as one-way slab. Now, I'm getting several inputs from contractor and other team members regarding the footing.
Thanks
PEinc,
Thank you for your sugesstion. Actually, I tried with this procedure. For some reason, I was thinking that I was using a wrong method Tieback anchor wall. Anyhow, thanks a lot for giving a valuable suggestions.
thanks
Does anybody the procedure to calculate embedment depth for soldier pile with tieback anchors in rock? I looked at Cir. No. 4 but I couldn't get any useful information.
Thanks for your suggestions.
Friends,
Thank you for your suggestions for the tiered wall system. The goetechnical drilling for this tiered wall system was just finished . Interestingly, we encountered rock at shallower depths. In order to reduce the cost of rock excavation, the client wanted to construct a H-pile wall with...
TXStructural and FixedEarth,
Thank you for your suggestions. I have been in the field for the last 10 days and I didn't get chance to discuss this topic further.
FixedEarth: Thank you for the surcharge distribution sketch.
TXStructural: Do you think that tight curves in the retaining walls...
Friends,
Does anybody know how to design cantilever poured concrete retaining wall with radius? I've designed straight walls in the past but not the curved walls. It's tiered retaining wall. Do the tiered segmental wall design rules apply for the concrete walls or is there any different...
What is the minimum factor of safety required for global stability of a segmental block retaining wall? Usually, I consider 1.5 in my analysis.
The wall that I am currently designing will have a wet pond in front of it. Is it reasonable to consider pond with no water (during and/or after...
RFreund,
I was worrying about deflection earlier. But, you are right that the segmental blocks can take some deflection.
I will consider a control joint between the sheet pile wall portion and normal retaining wall portion.
Thank you.
Dirtydude,
Good Idea. Do you know what kind of brackets we need to use?
Do you think it's a good idea to attach segmental blocks to cantilevered sheet pile wall?
Thanks a lot for your qucik response.
I designed a SR wall recently. It is approximately 18 feet tall and 1000 feet long. The wall supports trafic load and has a 3 to 1 slope at the toe. At one section of the wall we cannot extend our geogrid into the easement. This is located approximately 3.5 feet behind the blocks. Wall height at...
I designed a Segmental block retaining wall. Now, the City asked for a guard rail on the wall. I do not know how to calculate the loads due to guard rail and the effect on geogrid layers. I know that impact load per AASHTO is around 10 kips. Can somebody give some guidance on this? basically, I...
