    machining rod journals

Is there any risk to machining the rod journals on a crank (forged steel) to suit 2" (50.8mm) small journal chev rods. The standard rods have BE which are 51.9938mm. I'd be looking at nitriding or cryo treating the crank. COmments on the latter is welcome.

    CV joints and friction

I have new CV joints that I'm about to fit and they feel quite stiff without CV grease. The first questions is: does this mean there will be added frictional losses? Are there any tricks I could employ to decrease the friction such as disassembly of the CV joint and polish the ball bearings...

    Brake Booster calcs

I would like some assistance in working out the contribution on pressure/force of brake boosters (twin boosters, in this case) in understanding the forces in braking. Everything else is mathematically straight. There are space considerations which warrant the removal of the boosters and use of...

    Idle air valve for ITBs

I am looking to fit ITBs to a 4 cylinder using the proprietary bodies that bolt to DCOE manifold. Because of a 'adventurous' camshaft (Schrick 316 deg) I am looking use a combination of TPS and MAP and to improve drivability I am considerng using a GM IAC valve. I am using Kalmaker/Delco. I...

    Engine torque plate for boring/honing

This may be a loopy idea but I'm thinking about making a engine torque plate by using a redundant head and machining boring holes, more or less, 'up through the combustion chambers'. Will this work or should I keep taking the little white tablets?

    Welding aluminum heads

Thanks, everyone. malbeare, thanks for the tip about the retaining bar. Also, I found the link to the 6S engine interesting. I think I need to go and sit quietly in a corner for awhile to get my head around it. Cheers

    Welding aluminum heads

I need to weld up some combustion chambers on an aluminum head as part of reshaping. I'd appreciate views on whether this will impact on the integrity of the head and whether I will need to get it heat treated.

    Stroke rod ratio

Thanks all for the advice and thanks SMOKEY44211 for the link to thread # 71-86266. That is an interesting thread. Cheers

    Stroke rod ratio

I have been asked to build a BMW performance engine (low boost turbocharged) using the M10 block and the crank from the 87mm stroked 2.5 liter M3. This is a little out of the ordinary for me and have been doing some research on the Bimmer engines. With the 135mm M10 rods, the standard r:s ratio...
