    DOT 406 Code Tanks

Do cargo tanks that hold diesel have to meet the requirements of DOT 406?

Designing a dished disc in sheetmetal

Thanks for the input--I was planning on a coining operation and knew the shop would do provide me with the dimensions but I wanted to get a material estimate. Thanks again.

Designing a dished disc in sheetmetal

I would like to design a dished disc in sheetmetal so I can "unfold" it and get an idea of what the preformed dimensions need to be. Is this possible? I can obviously draw the part as a solid but cannot convert it to sheetmetal. Thanks for any help.

    Mirroring of Surface Parts

I am doing an FEA of a component that has several large diameter pipes that are generally mirror images of each other. I have chosen to run shell elements for the pipes and would like to know if anyone has a method of mirroring surface parts which shells require. Thanks

    4130 Endurance Limit

I am designing an axle shaft and have specified HT to be Rkw C 34-38 quench and tempered. Does anyone have a feel for what the endurance limit modifier should be as a funciton of the ultimate tensile strenght? I know that for most purposes I would start with half of the tensile strength and then...

    Drawing slow to come up

The computer is on a network but I have my templates stored locally on my computer and the file locations pointed at place. It eventually finds the template but take 2 minutes or longer.

    Drawing slow to come up

After creating a part is SW 2006 and pressing the create drawing icon it takes a long time before the drawing format comes up. I am using SW 2006. Thanks for any help.

    Learning Solidworks

I believe the original question was efficiently and thoroughly learning SW. At our class we had three AutoCad user and they did struggle changing from a 2D mindset to SW. It was their thousands of hours of Autocad experience that held them back. As I said before, I had none, and left the class...

    Learning Solidworks

Even though I had very little CAD experience and spent the majority of my career as an engineering manager I was able to learn SW (to a very usable level) in a very short period of time. I went to the resellers training program for 4 days and with an excellent instructor returned home with...

need 12 volt 20 amp power supply

I am designing a product and need a 12 volt 20 amp power supply (convert from 110 ac). This is not for communications but to drive an electric cylinder. Does anyone know of a good supplier that has a UL rating? I can also get the motor in a 24 volt size--other than the smaller amps pulled is...

    Polarized Refrigerant Oil Additives

I have found one good test done by the Florida Solar Energy Center done on PolarShield. Study reports no savings. There are other brands that are formulated differently so I will look into them. Randy

    Polarized Refrigerant Oil Additives

No--the measurements are fairly simple. This motor is 3 phase pulling about 20 amps. I have put power factor correction so the real power amps is about 15. Of the fifteen, I am now generally seeing about 13-13.5. This compressor did not get an oil change but we removed 10% and added in 10% PROA...

    Polarized Refrigerant Oil Additives

Thanks Clyde--FYI The data I've taken so far show about 1.5 amp drop per leg. I am taking the data versus outside air temp and cooler temp and will regress the data over time to see if it moves up or down with application time.

    Polarized Refrigerant Oil Additives

FYI, The report I am referencing was produced for the U.S. Department of Energy by the Pacific Northwest Laboratory under contract DE-AC06-76RLO 1830, Sept 1995. In the report the ORL data was not impressive (1.8% drop in consumption)and the testing process was deemed not reflecting actual...

    Polarized Refrigerant Oil Additives

I tend to be very skeptical of these sorts of things also but this has DOE testing to support it. The document was produced by the DOE Federal Energy Management Program titled, "Polarized Refrigerant Oil Additive, Technology for Improved Compressor and Heat Exchanger Efficiency". I have...

    Polarized Refrigerant Oil Additives

I have ran across replacement refrig oil lubricants called Polarized Refrigerant Oil Additives (PROA). From the Federal Technology bulletins, the field data seems impressive, i.e., 10% savings or more and longer life of the compressor. It works by removing the sticking oil out of the loop and...

    A/C Powermizer

I have run across a device that claims to lower a/c cost by reducing the run time of the compressor so the air conditioner reaches max cooling temp with minimum energy usage. It does so by sensing the temp of the air off the evap coils and then turning off the compressor when certain conditions...
