    Weld Stress Criteria

I wonder if someone could help, I am modelling a welded ring in Ansys and am looking to identify the failure criteria against which to judge the stress in the weld. The weld in question is subject to both direct thrust and bending loads. My inital thinking would be to use a theory such as...

    Damage Equivalent Stress

I was wondering if anyone could help me with some quick instruction. I have been assessing a large propellor shaft and have been presented witha table of damage equivalent data. I appear to have a damage equivalentload set which I can input into my FE model. However could anyone explain what...

    Natural Fequency in water

Can anyone think of a way in which ProMechanica could be adapted to provide a natural frequency analysis, for a steel structure in water. Any help would be most appreciated Thanks

Looking for some clarification on Underwater Shock

I am currently analysing a ship stabiliser for its withstand to a customer produced requirement. In the specification the customer has asked whether our structure can withstand a pulse of X bar for 2 milliseconds (this is the only detail we have been supplied). In my analysis I have assumed...

    Welding AISI 4130

Thanks very much for the help metengr, To answer your questions, The welded joint will be a full pen MIG weld, using SF3AM welding wire. If it is necessary we will try to locally heat treat the welded region however we have to be careful as the shaft is in a finished machine condition and...

    Welding AISI 4130

Can anyone advise, We have recieved a 9" shaft forged from AISI 4130. Hb values of 217 - 237 were specified in the order. Unfortunately on arrival the shaft hardness values ranged as high as 275 Hb. When this is welded in place (will be welded to 12mm S355K2G33 plate in 4 different positions)...
