    Concrete Mix Design

As far as my experience goes, all these submittals do include the actual testing (lab results) of cubes/ cylinder based on submitted design mix (should have strength overdesign as per ACI). Also if there are additives than manufacturer's spec. Some data about cement properties and also sieve...

    Bolt tightening

SperlingPE Thx for ur time. There will be cables running on the bearings. As such there is no LATERAL FORCE. So bolt or shaft should stay and work even without nuts but we know in reality it doesnot happen. So I want to know that even though theoritically there is no lateral load, as per such and...

    Bolt tightening

I have a 1" dia bolt on which will act as a shaft or pin on which bearing will rest. Bearing will give only 4 kips of point load on 1" shaft. The shaft will be resting on two 3/16" thick plates. We will place nuts outside of plate to keep the shaft in place. AISC does provide pretension force in...

    Rebar strengthening in concrete

I have a roof where from some areas (say 1% of total roof)concrete has spalled off and rebars are also rusted considerably. I can recommend various ways to patch up concerete but what about section loss of rebars. How to improve or bring at par with origianl cross-sectional area.

I have 50 feet span W24x131. Due to columns and outriggers coming on this beam, I have placed a number of Parallel and Perpendicular stiffener plates. Is the beam top flange laterally braced or not?

    Deflection in cable

I have a 1/8" dia cable fixed at two ends (same level). A point load is applied in middle. What equation can be used to find how much cable will deflect. I saw some ref but they want two of these three quantities be known 1) Horz comp of tension in cable , 2) load 3) deflection. What If I know...

    Joining Existing Angles

I have two angles 3x3x3/8 x 12'-0" long with back to back separated 1-1/2". They are exisiting and horz leg is on top. There is a nut every 2" about 1/4 inch dia protruding in 1-1/2" gap b/w 2 L's ( so a restriction). I need to somehow join these angles. Shall I use a strap every 12" c/c? any...

    Need to accelerate Conc Hardening

I need to obtain the full strength of concrete in 14 days rather than 28 days. I believe use of admixture will be cheaper than rapid hardening cement. Please give me your tips

    Tar to protect Galv steel

Dear CTW Nothing. Carport is built with TS columns. The bottom of all columns on each side is welded with Horizontal TS (base rail). The client wants to place conc floor inside the carport. Due to this floor the base rail and some bottom portion of Ts col will be burried in floor conc.

    Tar to protect Galv steel

StevenA I myself have not heard about it that's y I threw it to this forum. Actually the client is also a PE(do not know which discipline) therefore trying to listen to him. He placed a carport. it is made of Galv. TS 2x2x12 GA. columns and base rail. He wants to place a conc floor due to which...

    DISTRIBUTION FACTOR-BRIDGE DESIGN

when we design stringers for bridge as per AASHTO, depending upon the spacing of stringers, we calculate the distribution factor to be multiplied with load to obtain required design data to design stringers. Does any one has idea that why this Dist. factor is different for moment and shear. To me...
