After the fresh install of xp did you install anything else, besides service packs? Also in the task manager is the Installation taking up 100% resources? Try rolling back service pack 2(uninstall it in the add/remove programs menu), then install autocad. Then re-install service pack 2.

I am trying to install of solidworks 2005 on a new computer. When i get past the part to enter my serial, a box pops up saying "distribution characteristic 101". The installation then fails and goes to the cancel screen. I believe the problem is an msi related problem but have not found a fix...
