    Localized Failure

    If your failure criterion is yield, then your structure fails and there is no need to re-distribute the loads. I guess you have to clarify what is really your failure criteria.

    jmarcoj a rigid element stay rigid in linear analysis, dosn't matter if its 2D or 3D. you wrote: "The displacement of the slave node is not equal to the displacement of the master". The displacements are not necessarily equal. check your model by replacing the rigid element with a pyramid...

    FEMAP vs Patran

    I have used both Patran (up to now) and Femap ( till couple of years ago). Patran is more powerfull but not friendly, and Femap is friendlier, and easy to learn and run. In my opinion, unless you need a feature which is unique to Patran , Femap is a better choice. regards
