Axial Compressor/Turbine - Methodology to estimate thrust forces generated?

I'm trying to perform some base level calculations to estimate axial thrust forces within a gas turbine engine. Looking at this, I see four key components to the forces: 1. Compressor Axial Thrust - i.e. forces generated at each stage of the compressor 2. Turbine Axial Thrust - as item 1, but...

Flame Arrester - What Size Required?

I'm hoping somebody can be of help with a flame arrester query I have. Basically I need to find a suitable flame arrester which will allow a unit to meet Atex regulations for group IIB2. Effectively what I need is an arrester element that is as small as possible in length and of diameter no...

    Impact Pressure/Energy for indentation

I'm trying to find what pressure or energy would be required to indent copper by 1mm. To be more specific it would be for a piece of copper sheet that was about 1mm thick and resting on some dust like particles so nothing too hard underneath. It would be struck by a pin like object that had a...

    Partial Threading of round bar

How do you partially thread a bar in solid edge? I need to thread about 50mm of a 150mm bar but it won't allow me to do this as it simply threads the whole bar even when I use a finite value for it. Anyone able to help? Thanks.

    Small Gears

Thanks, that worked ok for me and I can just use that in my design. Still can't see why it wasn't working for me, but it doesn't matter too much. Now I just need to make a rack to fit the gear and I'm all set, but hopefully that shouldn't be too difficult.

    Small Gears

mmm, strange that it worked for you but not for me. How do you mean that you had all features suppressed? I'm pretty new to SE so am not too sure of all these things. Unfortunately that file you put up wouldn't open for me as it was just telling me it was corrupt.

    Small Gears

thanks for the link to the rack, should come in very usefull. I was using Engineering reference for creating the gear. I suppose I could just sketch it can do a protrusion, but I was hoping to make it using engineering reference and wasn't sure why it doesn't work. Thanks.

    Small Gears

I'm currently using solid edge for a uni project and very much teaching myself as I go along, but I've hit a problem. I want to put a small gear into my part (about 20mm diameter) but when I try and create it all I get is a cylinder with no teeth. I can manage to create larger diameter gears...

Viscosity of 15w-40 at room temperature

Would someone be able to help me out and tell me what sort of range of viscosities 15w-40 could fall into at approximately 20 degrees centigrade. I know that there can be a lot of variation but if someone was able to either give me a range of values it would be between or a link to this...

    Analysis of Stokes law?

Thanks for the help but I'm afraid my knowledge on the topic is not great so I was hoping you might be able to expand a bit on where the different equations and figures you used came from. If you had any suggestion on what viewpoint I would be best to base my investigation that would also be...

    Analysis of Stokes law?

Hi, I am currently involved in an investigation in which I am looking at stokes law for measuring the viscosity of different liquids. I realise that stokes law only applies with infinite boundaries (i.e. a tube infinately wide and long) however what I wanted to invvestigate was what sort of...
