    Antenna Testing thresholds

    Does anyone have some concrete benchmarks for antenna/cabling testing? I am looking for minimum acceptable levels for the following : Return Loss (in dB) VSWR cable loss (dB/m , dB/ft) Basically I looking for general bencha=marks...values that should make me go...

    Matching dipoles to impedence of free space ???

    Hello, I am doing a project that involves the following. Signal recieved on 93 Mhz antenna , from here it goes into an amplifier, this then goes down a cable to a dipole antenna of some sort. The fellow I am doing this for says he has done it before and it requires 300 ohm cable. Is this to...

    return loss

    My spec analyzer reads returns loss in 10log(Pf/Pr) so a good cable has a more positive return loss... what is a good level (or resource) for return loss when calculated this way?

    Link Budget

    Just a quick reminder here. When I do a link budget ...let's say I have 30dBm from my transmitter , do I add my antenna gain in dBd or dBi , I understand what both are refering to (gain over a dipole gain over isotropic) I just can't remember which to use in a link budget ! for the record I am...

    Field Strength vs. reciever sensitivities

    Hello all , I just got a brand spanking new Spec analyzer and I am new to the game ( just graded) I am curious as to the best way to compare my field strength readings to the RX sensitivies of various devices. All the sensitivies I see are in dBm or uV . my metre can give me numbers...
