Do the current rules/regulations with regards to working with HV equipment in the UK permit the topping up of oil in an 11kV/415V Transformer while the transformer is energised & on load, or do we have to isolate the supply to the transformer in order to carry out the top up ?.

We have experienced a failure of a 30HP Reliance dc motor (15 years in operation).
The motor is fitted with an electromagnetic brake (fail safe – energise to hold brake off)
Both the field and armature have been destroyed beyond repair.
