truculenity...I do not know how to link or attach documents so I will cut/paste the information you requested below.
REACTIONS
The reactions are a part of a table that contains information on reactions, anchor bolts, and base plates. The first two columns of data locate the building columns...
Thanks for the advice JED on asking for the controlling load comb. I just got off the phone with the engineer (before reading your post) to get more info on the primary load cases. He sent me a Word document (4pages) describing in great detail about their primary load naming convention. I...
Nevermind. I think I found my own answer. I found a PDf of a "Rhino Steel Building Systems" drawing on the internet and they use the same nomenclature. The difference is they also provide a legend expaining the load case abbreviations.
I am purchasing a pre-engineered metal building from Whirlwind. I am designing the foundation system and I am trying to understand their presentation of column reactions. They have listed "Basic Column Reactions" which I understand from talking to Whirlwind as these are unfactored, primary...
focuseng - FYI...I pulled the trigger on my recommendation to the company today and it was accepted. We will pursue ENERCALC for at least 1 year and see how useful it is throughout the company. I know I will use it. Have a great day!
flight7 - out of date codes does not bother me too much(obviously software manufacturers should try to keep current), because all of the engineering I perform is for a private company and we have an agreement with the local AHJ to govern ourselves. This is very common in refineries/chem plants...
focuseng - yes, I did see the thread you reference after I sent my original request. After that though I still only saw a couple people who really stood up for Enercalc (yourself included). I have now used the Tedds trial for 2 days compared to Enercalc for the past 8 years. I got to be...
Gumpmaster - Thanks for your input. Part of the issue is my office is very lean and they keep adding more activities to engineering which is not engineering i.e. scheduling, cost controls, reporting, budgeting, etc... Sorry to say, but my time "engineering" things these days is very minimal...
Mark - What type of projects does your company work on typically? Commercial, residential, industrial? I have used MathCAD (looks great) only sparringly over the years and I have developed spreadsheets as well, but I am getting tired of trying to keep up with codes. The latest changes to AISC...
JoshPlum - I have downloaded the Tedds trial software. They give you access to maybe 15% of the available modules for use in the trial which lasts 45days. From what I can tell (in 20mins), they are prepackaged modules similar to Enercalc. My initial reaction is the input is good and the...
Hello all,
I am considering purchasing a structural software suite for my company (already have STAAD, Bently ADV FDN, RAM Connections) and I have only used Enercalc in the past. I like Enercalc, but I do not like the "black box" issue with the calcs. I read in some old threads from 2001 that...
richay - If you model the nodes 3 inches upward, doesn't that just simulate the pipe being 3 inches higher relative to the ground? How would that capture the induced deflection stresses? Or, maybe I am misunderstanding your suggestion of "...just displace the pipe nodes upward..."
DSB123 -...
Hello all,
I want to model an existing pipe in a piperack and use CNODES to impart a 3" vertical upward deflection to simulate lifting a portion of the pipe with come-alongs. There are no thermal stresses being considered, just trying to see what stresses are induced by lifting a portion of...
Petrochem industry
I am reviewing a very large pile-supported mat which will support 2ea heavy pieces of equipment. The geometry of the mat is oversized relative to the equipment as it will also be used to support a lifting tower needed to set the equipment in place. STAAD software was used...
DRC1...We typically have wording for the contractor to pour foundations within the day of excavation. Many times this is not possible, so as a option, we ask the contractors to pour a mud slab/seal slab. This slab will reduce effects of moisture intrusion into the excavation or excessive...
The general notes issued with a project called for a "seal slab" to be used on any foundation excavation left open more than 24hrs. The material callout is simply 2,000psi lean concrete. The onsite QA/QC rep for the project is requiring concrete cylinder breaks to prove the seal slab material...
