@energyprofessional just did a longer one on doing video interviews. yes, have several in the pipeline. editors have been building out tiktok and instagram accounts, so we needed a lot of reels and shorts. long form coming.
self learning tips would be a good video. how to court a mentor as...
Put a series of shorts up with interviewing advice. Getting good, positive results. Like 1.5k views each. Lot of kids to help out here!

All amazing info and thoughts @EnergyProfessional. Passed them along to the video editors.
What does the forum think about this video? Something we need to teach young engineers?

Awesome feedback! ... the initial thought was to just start cutting things up ..... try to get as many shorts as we could from the stuff we had. Get our video count over the threshold needed to get to some of the better analytics tools available...
As we go forward, we'll get better at helping...
Interestingly, if you can get people ALL the way to the end, YT will display you more. So watch to the end (mute), then go to next video. Helps us a LOT.
Those that put 'like and subscribe' near the end.... well people skip to the next one and YT doesn't get their ad money, so they dock you...
Amazing value in your post! Thank you! Will get this info to my media peeps. They did some rearranging over the weekend. Lots to do here.
Could use ALL the advice and suggestions we can get!
Right now they are working through the analytics for engagement ... how long someone stays on a...
lots and lots of work to do ....
eventual podcasts, interviews, adding graphics so i can do a 'lecture style' video on 'how to negotiate your job offer' ..... want to bring in several things i did while teaching university engineering classes...
we are working on grouping the shorts so they...
@EnergyProfessional really, really appreciate you being a subscriber. It is actually my channel. Just trying to help out the young engineers and the students I teach as well. Recently hired a company to help cutup videos and post content. The shorts are definitely annoying. However, views are...
How do you load bolts in bending in a rotational flange? If the joint is loaded in bending, the top / bottom bolts will have a tension in them. Make sure your preload is higher than this to keep the joint from separating. Preload the bolt to the point where it will not fail during initial...
ASCE 7 open structure will give you a net uplift that should put you in the ballpark. Chapter 27 in 7-10 (see Fig 27.4-4). Would probably use obstructed wind flow and use it as a net on the whole thing.

Welcome to 'the specs may not be right' 101. Design the way it needs to be done and have them mark it up, or send an RFI to clear up. Your schedule may determine which you have time for.....

Determine the needed contact area for the force couple to not fail the thread in bearing as the moment is transferred from the ring to the shaft. See if you have a whole lot more than that.
You can then use that same force to see how much thread length is needed to resist that force in shear...
+1 for absorb the impact elsewhere
jamnut or castle nut with cotter / wire should then keep it on
why is it bolted if it never needs to be disassembled?

You have the max arrest force. Use that to design the system with FS>2.
How many people on the line at a time? Use Nigel if you have more that one.
Reminder to check for swing clearance
.... Took a look through the paper, seems like the conclusion is an energy absorber is needed somewhere...
Might be the time for book solution.... 'Advanced Mechanics of Materials' by Boresi, et. al. has some good crane hook solutions.
My old fifth edition also points toward Wang having a effective algorithm .....

Spend a few $ and hire a professional engineer to help you do what you want to do. Then you will know for sure and the solution will be custom to your situation.

Search for maritime standards for living quarters. Might be some oil rig stuff out there.
Use good engineering practice.... ASCE 7 seems like a good start for the structure. Then whatever it is made of: AISC for Steel, ADM for Aluminum, etc.
here is a good thread...
Check the tech sheets for the particular fastener they want to use. Then check the drill points. Then predrill the top/outer plate. Then build in redundancy. #8 will be too small to get through 1/4" plate.
If they are pushing, you can always choose a couple of predrill sizes and mockup a...
