    I can simulate the ramp, but it addds to the cycle time. This is an older machine without ramping. I am trying to reduce the cycle time as well.

    It is my understanding the first shot is hitting cold material and exploding due to the different energy absorption of hot and cold material. The gas is on and flowing about 3 seconds before the weld. This is a keyhole type weld.
