    Twisting wires

Ok, so if I have something else than a bulb at the end...for example a solenoid that requires a low voltage to activate...would EMI/RFI influence be able to activate it if the wires are not twisted?

    Twisting wires

Wow! This whole electrical area is way out of my radar. So in Mechanical Engineering layman terms.... If I twist unshielded wires I will stop the creation of unwanted current from an external source be it EMI, RFI, etc.. to pass through the wires? In theory, If I have a battery/switch on one...

    Twisting wires

Hi, I am a mechanical engineer...thus the question. I know that when you twist wires together you are protecting from EMI and RFI. My question is...if you do not twist can these two interferences or any other for that matter actually create/induct a current in the wires? Thank! Mike

Calculating Shear Strength of a Material?

How do you calculate for the Ultimate Shear Strength of a Material? I have a SS416 heat treated at 800 (From Machinery Handbook) and now has: Yeild Strength: 150000psi Ultimate Tensile Strength: 195000psi Hardness: C41, 390Bhn One book says: Ult. Shear Strength = 0.57 x Material Yield...

ACME thread design based on internal pressure

I am trying to calculate the necessary length of thread engagement for an ACME thread on a pipe (and pipe cap)based on the internal pressure. I have calculated for the Stress Area At for a 1.5-4 ACME-2G from the Machinery Handbook 26th, pg 1794. and then inputed it in the Length of engagement...

Thread design based on internal pressure

I am using a 1.5-4 ACME-2G on a pipe with a .803 I.D. My material yield is 150000psi., Ultimate Tensile is 195000psi, Radial stress is 57400psi and hoop is 165600psi. Cockroach, when you say check the normal stress under the root of the external thread...do you mean by calculating the area of...

Thread design based on internal pressure

MintJulep, Calculated the hoop stress.... around 165600 psi. So my approach is correct?
