    Force required to bend steel rod?

    How can I calculate a concentrated force needed to bend/deform a mild steel rod (3/8")? I am familiar with behaviour of materials in the linear region, but not with deformation mechanics. Thanks in advance. Dennis

    Delrin, Teflon or Other for sliding surface

    Insideman and Petersn, Thanks for the quick replies. I am not tied to the 1/2" thick sheets, and did not consider the creep issue. I do like the plastic rail on supporting framework idea. Any ideas on coefficient of friction of UMHW Polysthylene? Thanks again! Dennis
