    Workmanship specification for arc welding

Thanks a lot Gtaw. I would put something like "Welding process shall be conforming to AWS D1.1 or equivalent" in the drawing. It is a mild steel (low carbon stee) AISI 1020 welded structural steel (44W or 50W) and with possible cyclic loading (vibration cause by fluttering and structure). I...

    Workmanship specification for arc welding

I am creating a drawing for a structural bracket and would like to include a statement to control the workmanship of the welding section (done with arc welding). I have difficulty to find out the appropriate standard references I can put onto the drawing? I would like to know if there are any...

    Plate deflection equation

Hi Arto, can you elaborate what Roark is? Regards,

    Plate deflection equation

I am seeking an equation to determine load deflection characteristic of rectangular plate which is clamped or fixed on 4 corners with distributed load (the weight of the plate itself) plus a concentrated load at centre of the plate. Can any one help? Appreciated.

    Concrete anchoring

I am trying to select a concrete anchor to hang a post (hanging vertically downward). The post have a square flange on the top with mounting hole. My attempt is to use a heavy bolt to fix the post to the ceiling. I have done a dynamic analysis, it shows the resonance frequency is in the...

    Equation for transmissibility estimation

Greg, The tramissibility (Q) is simple the ratio of maximum output force to the maximum input force on a structure during vibration. At resonance, Q can be very high. Steinberg indicated that the force is proportion to square root of natural frequency of the structure. Regards,

    Simple natural frequency calculation

WCFoiles, It is what I am going to do next, determine the stiffness of the mounting bracket (which support the cylinder to the ceiling). Thanks.

    Equation for transmissibility estimation

Folks, Anybody have a good equation to estimate the transmissibility of the cylinder along the axis? (In my application, the cylinder is hanging vertically downward). Steinberg used the equation Q = 2 sqrt(fn) in some of his examples to estimate the transmissibility of beam structure. But I...

    Simple natural frequency calculation

Ivymike, I think it make sense. The deflection was only used to determine the stiffness, which is what the fn depends on. It sounds like if I know the stiffness and the mass of the system, I would know the fn. This is independent of orientation...or g field. Thanks a lot.

    Simple natural frequency calculation

I should add...I want to determine the resonance frequency of the vertically mounted beam when it is excited horizontally. Thanks

    Simple natural frequency calculation

It's been a while for me to do a vib calculation. I was trying to determine the resonance frequency of the structure. The structure is basically a beam hanging vertically down from the ceiling. The lower end of the beam is attached with a mass. I found a simple equation from Steinberg...
