Air removal from pipeline with multiple high and low points

How should I remove the air from a 300 foot long 4" fuel oil pipe that has 3 low points and 3 high points and multiple bends? The pipe is connected to a tank with 10 feet of oil in it. There are no drains in the low points and small vents in the sections of pipe that are the 2nd and 3rd high...

    Using a GSU transformer

Thanks to all. You've given me enough to offer it for further evaluation.

    Using a GSU transformer

Thanks ScottyUK. Will it make much difference if the designed input voltage of the new one is 22.8KV instead of 22KV? Thanks, Brian

    Using a GSU transformer

Thanks electricpete. Would the fault current issue just require different relay settings or some other minor modification, or would it make the new transformer unusable? Thanks, Brian

    Using a GSU transformer

Can a Generator Stepup transformer that has nearly the same ratio of the input to output voltage be used in place of a damage one if the MVA rating is high enough? The original one was 300 MVA, 15KV delta- 230KV Y. Can a 445 MVA, 22KV delta - 345KV Y transformer be used instead? Thanks, Brian

Definition of ASME codes for pipe tube forgings

Thanks metengr. I was wondering if there was someplace in the code where it says that P stands for pipe, T for tube, and F for forging.

Definition of ASME codes for pipe tube forgings

Where in the ASME code are the abbreviations for pipe, tube, and forgings ("P" "T" and "F") defined, i.e. SA-213 T-22, A-182 F-22? Thanks, Brian

    Steam flow nozzle design

In a steam flow nozzle in a 600,000 lb/hr steam line, would there typically be a hole (3/8" - 1/2" diameter) through the side of the nozzle down stream of the throat? Thanks, Brian

Using strain gage to determine hopper level

I am wondering if a strain gage could be used to determine the level of material in a hopper shaped like an inverted pyramid that is made of plate steel. The hopper is about 12 feet wide by 12 feet long at the top and is about 8 feet deep. The weight of material in the hopper when full is...

    Coal Bunker Slicer

It is a pulverized coal plant with three 80 MW units. The bunkers can hold 1800 tons per unit.

    Coal Bunker Slicer

As suggested, I posted this in the Power Generating forum. I should have been clearer in what I wanted to know. What I was actually wondering about was whether the whole device with the hoist, frame, cart, slicer, etc. was made by a slicer manufacturing company. The slicer itself is made of...

    Coal Bunker Slicer

We have two slicers that we use to break up coal in our coal bunkers. The slicer plate is dropped onto the coal in the coal bunker. The slicer consists of a thick steel plate, roughly 24" x 18" x 4", attached to a wire rope (about 1/2" diameter). The wire rope runs from an air operated...

Pulling capacity of pickup with railroad trucks

Carnage1 - your comment was hilarious. Since I'm just looking for an alternative way to move one car at at time in our plants train yard if our locomotive is out of service, speed won't be a big issue. MintJulep - is there anyone you know that uses a pickup for this type of situation?

Pulling capacity of pickup with railroad trucks

The railroad often uses pickup trucks equipped with railroad trucks (wheels) to travel along railroad tracks. I would like to know how much weight such a pickup could pull on the track. Would it be possible to pull a 100 ton railroad car on a "level" track with a pickup with a towing capacity...

    Cooling tower nozzles plugs

It has been suggested that the nozzles in our cooling tower's de-icing valve trough be plugged during the summer months to improve the tower's performance, and then be unplugged before the winter to prevent freezing. The de-icing trough has 2 rows of nozzles in addition to the de-icing valve...

    Alum for water treatment

Thanks for your responses. The alum is "Certified to NSF/ANSI 60". If I want to order "unpurified" alum, what would I call it? I'll check if there are any local aluminum anodizers.

    Alum for water treatment

We have a water precipitator to treat river water that will be used for equipment cooling, not for boiler water or drinking water. Some of the cooling water is returned to the river without further treatment. We use "purified" alum as a coagulant. Is there a such thing as "un-purified" alum...
