as a general rule change hastens the laws of unintended consequences. I am retired now but I will relate what happened just after I sold the business [printing related]
the company switched from VOC to water solvent inks and lack of maintenance on the 240V single phase ink pump motor portable...
like any dc inductive device the kick back on circuit opening is the problem. spike over voltage.... just what movs are designed for and they wont be polarity sensitive either. cheap. give em a try
if you are writing rules
spares in sensor wiring [ground only at the receiving end]
spares in a cable carrying over X volts should be grounded
low voltage control [ungrounded insulated and marked spare]
set your rules to the needs
last one I had like that [early 1980s]the leads to the motor were disconected at the motor but not insulated from ground. trashed a controler that looked a lot like this one.
