Could contact definitions between the two surfaces work? I know that *MODEL CHANGE also allows for the activation and deactivation of a contact pair.
However, I'm not sure of how to (un)tie the nodes as a time dependent event (if you do, I'd love to hear it!).
I've tried doing the surface definition thing, and it works to some extent (the biggest problem being where tied nodes are also part of an embedded element).
I'm basically just having problems modeling a structure that is repeated three times - I built the original part, then instanced it three...
I am attempting to remove coincident nodes in the input file for an ABAQUS analysis. I've heard that it can be done in the CAE, but I am not using that. Any ideas of a keyword to remove the duplicates?
I've been using *mpc, tie to connect the nodes, but since there are a lot, I'd rather not...
My previous method was to use *MODEL CHANGE to remove the elements; however, I could never get the model to converge after about half the elements were gone (I reduced the initial time step to 0.00001, I believe).
The idea with applying the edge loads was that I took the stresses at integration...
Hey all --
To give a very brief background - I'm attempting to model a fracture by first finding the stresses in certain elements, then making a second file without those elements defined. In the second file, the neighboring elements have an applied stress equal to that held by the removed...
I have a load step in my analysis where a pressure load is applied to some shell elements, and this error is occuring:
***ERROR: SURFACE ELEM15E3 INCLUDES EDGES. EXCEPT FOR SHELL EDGE LOADING, SURFACES WHICH INCLUDE EDGES CANNOT BE USED WITH *DSLOAD, *DSFLUX, *SFILM, *SRADIATE, *DSFLOW, *SFLOW...
We had some problems with this from our firewall software (Symantec). Before submitting the job, we had to disable the firewall, else information wouldn't be sent correctly. The job generally *would* run, it just wouldn't show progress or that it was completed (have you tried just hitting...
Thanks Martin.
If you don't mind me picking your brain a bit more... I've been playing around with *restart, and it doesn't seem right for what I'm doing (a lot of the keywords I'm using aren't supported with /explicit). However, it would be good to have an /explicit step that imports the...
Hello -
I have a model that is loaded almost entirely with static loads. The critical step, however, is best done dynamically, and will result in the failure of certain elements.
I'm having numerical problems in this final step when using /standard, but have been told that /explicit would...

Thanks for the thoughts. What I'm really trying to understand is how ABAQUS handles the interaction between a gas and a surface, in terms of temperature. There's radiation and convection between the two, dependent on absorptivity, emissivity, etc and the difference in the...
I'm attempting to look at heat transfer in structural members from a fire load using ABAQUS/Standard. I want to be able to input gas temperatures in the cavity (which I have found I can make using *cavity) and watch the effect on the enclosed member over time.
What I'm trying to learn is:
a)...
