    "The Internal Combustion Engine in Theory and Practice", volume 2, by CF Taylor, MIT Press. There are several editions. It has the largest section on balancing that I've found, plus an extensive bibliography. I paid $100 for mine 25+ years ago, but if you're in the USA you can check it out...

    engine balance textbook recommendation?

    There are many books that cover balancing engines, but the standard reference is "The Internal Combustion Engine In Theory and Practice" by CF Taylor. Any of the editions will do. Most of the other balancing texts I've seen have been abridged versions of Taylor.
