We have a 5 story building which will have sprinkler protection and standpipes.
1st story is parking and retail, 2nd story - 4th story are apartments, 5th story is multi-purpose and fitness rooms. Total building height is 57 feet.
Does the sprinkler system need to be NFPA 13 or 13R, or a...
We have some feedback on a building where we specified a vertical in line fire pump, to the effect that a horizontal split case pump is a 'better' pump. The two points mentioned were difficult maintenance and corrosion problems on the vertical in line.
Any opinions on these issues or others...
Does NFPA 20 require that the pump room be dedicated exclusively to the fire pump equipment? Due to space limitations, we wanted to have a pump room that would contain the hot water and chilled water pumps along with the fire pump. The room is 2 hour rated and will be sprinkled.
Thanks

I have a college laboratory building with a combined fire/domestic water supply entering the building and then splitting.
Fire demand is governed by 2 standpipes at 750 gpm.
Sprinkler demand is O1 which ends up less than the standpipes.
Domestic demand for the building is also 750 gpm.
Does...
A variety of steps are always taken to seal a room where there is a clean agent suppression system like FM200 installed. One action is to put automatic shut-off dampers in HVAC ducts coming into or out of the room.
Are these requirements actually contained in any codes? I do not find them...
I have a 1500 gpm diesel fire pump in a dedicated pump house with 300 gal fuel storage. The pump water supply comes from a 250,000 gal storage tank. The tank is filled with a 6" line off the city main which flowed 1900 gal at 72 psi static, 64 psi residual. I am uncertain about parts of the...
Thank you, sir. Your post was helpful. Our system is single interlock and I have read that 20 psi in the system is normal. Our hazard is O2 and our pressure may be a little better: 82 static, 68 residual, at 1150 gallons.
But the compressors I looked at on the Viking site show that any volume...
Are there any rules of thumb that would allow a consulting engineer to estimate the water volume in a preaction sprinkler system before the actual system layout is designed by the sprinkler contractor. I need an estimate to define the HP of the air compressor for the system
Thanks

NFPA 14 requires a 3" drain riser adjacent to the standpipe if you have pressure limiting hose valve connections, so that the hose valves can be tested. I have a 5 story building with an automatic wet standpipe system, and it does need pressure limiting hose valves.
I don't quite get how the...
