Tom,
Is thermal expansion/contraction of the vessel shell between two fixed saddles considered in any of the load cases - or is one end always assumed to float? Is it possible to turn off the friction coeficient to model both saddles as fixed/anchored?
thanks
Will someone please explain how the anchor bolts are subjected a net uplift by internal pressure alone, with no wind or seismic? The first load case in Table 3-21 for uplift due to design pressure only seems to evaluate the shell separation from the floor, how would this case by itself trigger...
Tom,
When performing UG-45(b)(1), why does the program sometimes use the Appendix 1-1 formula for tr and other times the UG-27(c)(1) formula is applied?
What exactly is the dimension referenced by the following output in the nozzle report?
Projection available outside vessel, Lpr:
The dimension that I'm getting in this output is not the distance from the outside vessel surface to the nozzle flange face, and yes I've backed out the dimension for...
So is it acceptable for an external ring to cross a saddle? UG contains the statement that the ring shall extend completely around the cirumference. Allowances are given for internal rings. I would think the same should apply to external rings.
Can someone please offer guidance on the installation of external stiffening rings that would intersect with either nozzles or support saddles? Section UG (VIII-1) states that the rings shall extend completely around the circumference of the cylinder. But, as long as the required moment of...
Tom,
Can you please comment on the methodology behind the output for the nozzle neck thickness calcs?
Ignore external pressure and area reinforcement calcs and just consider a small bore nozzle subject to internal pressure (in rating mode). It looks like to me that Compress is using the...
Tom,
Thanks for the reply. If I understand this correctly, the thickness used for moment of intertia in the ring calculation is the required shell thickness at the MAEP of ring?
If that is the case, this thickness would not be known until after the MAEP for the ring is determined, so what...
What value for "t" in Do/t is being used for the ring calculation? For situations where the available moment of interia is much larger than the required area, the value of t is equal to the actual shell thickness.
For smaller rings when I required is close the I available, the program is using...
When external lateral loads are applied to a tall tower in combination with wind loading, does the software take into consideration the worst load case of wind acting in the same plane/direction as the external lateral load?
Sorry, my first post should read:
For some courses of the shell, the calculated MAEP of the shell is equal to the external pressure displayed in the ring calcs.
For other courses, the MAEP of the shell is NOT equal to the external pressure used in the ring calcs. Why are the ring...
Can someone please explain why the results for a stiffener ring give a different external pressure than the MAEP allowed for the cylindrical shell that it is attached to? I am modelling different scenarious for a standard cylindrical shell with stiffener rings. For some courses of the shell...
