We are going to use small carbon steel components on a application, which is close to a battery. So the components could contact with battery acid. Can we coating/painting the components to protect them against battery-acid corrosion? If so, what is the best surface finishing? If not...

Thank you very much for your reply. The materials are medium carbon/medium carbon boron steels and the components are fasteners. I do not know what the application will be, and the only information is the fasteners will be stored at -50ºC and be used at -40ºC.

Does anyone know whether medium carbon steel/medium carbon boron steel components can be stored at -50ºC and serviced at -40ºC regarding to shear and tensile strength? I know generally these steels shall not be used below -50ºC because they will become brittle.

Does anyone know which companies can supply maraging steel 250 and ultra-high strength H13 in wire form with diameter in the reange of 1.4~5mm? I know these two grades normally are avaliable in large bar size.
