I m modeling effect of composite fiber reinforce polymer (CFRP) layer on steel tube. There are some suggestion to model CFRP layer using truss element and to model steel tube using shell element. There is no problem modeling steel tube using shell element as the nature of thin wall...
For the material properties, I put yield stress and strain value from tensile coupon test.
I did use Riks Static , however it stopped when self contact starting to occur. Then, I modified a bit using Dynamic, Explicit and it works.

I am simulating the effect of axial load on a square hollow steel tube. The problem comes up when the tube start folding to itself. I defined a double side surface which is the tube and using self contact as follow:
