Indeed they are. I have a post office in my back yard.

Not enough! My roof is about maxed out. I'm considering adding 8 more panels to what I have now. http://img809.imageshack.us/i/october201051.jpg/

    Example: I generate 600 kWh this month. = .11 * 600 = $66 I use 600 kWh = 0 from DTE = $-66.00 bill from DTE. Example 2: I generate 600 kwh = $66.00 I use 700 kWh = 700-600 = 100 kWh net = 100 * .13 (cost per DTE kWh) = $ 13.00 Net Bill = $66 - $13 = $-53.00 Example 3: I generate 600 =...

To answer IRstuff question: I get paid for what I generate $0.11/kWh even if I use it! I also get a credit on my bill for electricity that I generate that I don't use. On months I use more electricity that I produce, I either eat from my $ credit or Power Credit Balance.

Yes...I will break even at 9 months actually. I already have the panels installed. I live in Michigan and am served by Detroit Edison. If you're interested we can chat about the program. Basically DTE (detroit edison energy) paid me $2.40 / watt installed. I have a 5060 watt system...

I have a Solar Panel installation project. The initial cost of the system is $19,000. About 2 months after that, I will receive a credit from the power company for $12,500. About 8 months after that, I will receive $5,700 federal tax credit. Then every month for the next 20 years I will...

Water Alkalinity, Ph, and chemical dosing.

I have raw water characteristics of a public water supply (attached). Is there a way to determine the alkalinity and Ph from these characteristics? If so, can someone explain to me. I would definately like to learn. Google has provided some chemical equations that make my head spin (likely...

    NCEES Chemical Sample Exam

NCEES sells one I believe. It's a book of questions similar to those on the exam. I bought one for civil engineering. It was about $55 after shipping.

Uplift on Roof Mounted Solar Panels

I can install the panels on my own and still receive the rebate offered by my utility company and by the federal government. I have a certified electrician that is going to assist me in the wiring (it's actually quite simple). I plan on putting 3/16" x 3" lag bolts at 4' o.c. into my trusses...

Uplift on Roof Mounted Solar Panels

I'm getting ready to install a solar panel system on my roof. The supplier won't get in to the uplift calculations, probably because they wan't zero liability. Therefore, I will need to provide this information to my local building official. I've been searching the internet all morning for...

Skewed Joint Lines in Conc Pavt

This was very good insight. I appreciate all the help. I definately have learned something new here. Or atleast it's been put into terms that I grasp and seem logical. What seems to be important is the randomness in the joint spacing and not the specific randomness so much. This might be...

Can an Air Release Vent be relocated?

Thanks for all the ideas/suggestions. I was unaware that these could be put into manholes. I don't have all of the asbuilts as of yet, I will check into those and weigh the options as well as contacting the WDA and finding out their recommendations or guidelines. Through more investigation...

Skewed Joint Lines in Conc Pavt

Not re-inventing the wheel. This came to fruition because we were reading some standard notes on a set of plans for a Local Agency and the random spacing was different that what is specified in the MDOT Manual. Hence, my need to understand it's origins in order to understand whether this is...

Can an Air Release Vent be relocated?

I have read a little bit in this forum on the science behind Air Release Vents. I gather they are usually @ high points in water distribution lines and usually are only found on large trunk lines. I have a project with a 54" watermain. We have a proposed road going through the existing...

Skewed Joint Lines in Conc Pavt

I reside in Michigan; therefore, I am not entirely sure whether this is localized to MDOT or if it's similar in other places. Specifically in the MDOT Road Design Manual it discusses skewed joint lines shortly and states that skewing the joint lines helps dampen resonant responses to traffic...
