DanDel,
Thanks for the reply.
The system is 3-phase 3-wire. 'Neutral' is the terminology used by GEC Alsthom to describe the current in the earth fault element, it has the symbol Io.

We have a 10MVA 33000/11000 volt transformer connected to a 27-panel 11000 volt board. The transformer is fitted with various types of relays including a GEC K-Series 3-phase and earth fault relay.
Recently, it has been noticed that a current reading of 4 amperes can be seen on the 'Neutral'...
Could someone please explain briefly the difference between live tanks and dead tanks with reference to medium voltage switchgear upto 38kV.
Many thanks,

To buzzp & GordS,
Many thanks for the advice. Today a collegue managed to locate the web site for P & B.
It can be found at www.pbweir.com where they list several type of 'Gold' relays and the appropiate data sheets are only a 'phone call away!
Again, many thanks for your help.
I need a copy of the Operating Manual/Test Procedures for a P & B Thermal Overload Relay for Generator Protection.
I have tried searching the web sites of P & B, Potter & Brumfield, Siemens and TYCO but so far I have been unable to locate any information.
Can anyone please advise me where I...
Dear dydt,
Many thanks for that answer, it was the answer I was hoping for.
I have read several books but cannot find a hard and fast answer to my question.
I was not sure if short circuit current came into the equation, but I shall use your solution.
Again many thanks,
Paul
On a standard 11kV/415v distribution transformer, what is the minimum size of earthing conductor required ?<br>Should it be bare tape, insulated tape, bare stranded conductor or covered stranded conductor ?
