OK, so basic question here: I'm trying to figure out what the shear force in the axial direction of a nozzle under internal pressure is but am having a brain fart. The nozzle is going to be wrapped and I want to figure out what the shear stress is going to be between the nozzle and the wrapping.
I work in a refinery ~ 50 years old and the original owner used many Dresser couplings mostly near the piping connection to an atm storage tank however we have also seen them used on underground piping near valve pits. My guess (or hope) is that they were popular to use for misalignment not...
Somehow we got 14tpi studs for out heat exchanger floating heads instead of 16tpi. Can anyone think of a critical reason why I can't use the 14tpi? I realize that torque will not be as accurate, but what am I missing?
When making a branch connection for a hot tap, we always use a split tee for a size-on-size connection. When we have a branch connection size smaller than the header, our piping designers always want to use weldolets. What is anyone's experience regarding the use of weldolets when you are...
Our engineering specifications require welded bonnet gate valves for steam (and a variety of others) service. Our Operations and Maintenance groups however wish to use bolted bonnets in lieu of the welded b/c of the ease of maintenance. Other than the obvious additional leak path associated...

I have heard that there are charts available that correlate corrosion rates to temperature in the presence of sulfur compounds. Does anyone know where I could get my hands on such charts ?
Thanks in advance for any help !
We have a brass exchanger tubesheet with Monel tubes. The brass tubesheet is failing in a manner that I haven't seen before. The brass is coming off in a "stringy" type fashion instead of pitting or cracking. Is this common in brass ? Is this typical of brass/monel galvanic corrosion ?
